Just came here to say that the post confusing Huey Newton for Huey Lewis yesterday made me think of a name for a black power Huey Lewis cover band, which would be Huey Newton's On The Loose, but I thought it might be a little too high concept

Well, of the frontmen, I can respect preferring Huey to Bruce. But the E Street Band had some amazing musicianship, so I can't go with "far superior."

I love both bands dearly, but comparing them seems incongruous at best. The News was all about a throwback sound with vocal harmony; E Street was about instrumentals. With exceptions like "Glory Days", which thematically was looking to invoke a similar sound, they otherwise weren't competing. They weren't trying to recall the same time periods in their sounds. You're trying to compare the Beach Boys to the Beatles, both great bands that had nothing to do with each other beyond having hits at the same time.

I'm not taking sides. I love them both.

Totally agree. But I only know mid eighties Springsteen onward, and apparently he was better earlier on.

I just don't get the Springsteen love. He's bland and a bit rubbish, even if this secret is a strange comparison.
