Where have you seen stans? I've seen people say he is an interesting character but I've not come across anyone treating him like a precious little baby or justifying his actions.

Neither have I. The most I have seen have been people going that despite how insane the world was, he had things in a sliver of working order. But no one has ever went, "Precious cinnamon bun. Too good for this world" on Joe.

There's an essay somewhere on Tumblr about how he was a great leader and that the heroes of the movie came along and ruined everything. I don't remember much about it except that it was very long and had an equally long rebuttal... I haven't seen the movie, so a lot of the context was lost on me. But yeah, it's out there.

But I wouldn't call that a stan. I took a college class that had a similar project. You take a story and tell it from the POV of the antagonist.

And I hardly think OP is seeing more than 1-2 "stans" unless they are specifically looking for them.

I bet feminists cream themselves at the thought of being taken by Immortan Joe.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Taken where?

To Six Flags? I motherfucking LOVE Six Flags so I'm in.

They're nomadic. Seeking out discussion of the movie so they can claim Immortan Joe is the hero, and Max and Furiosa destroyed the only working civilization in the movie.

I've seen a stan

[personal profile] caerbannog 2015-07-03 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I have yet to see...no, wait, I've seen one particularly thick stan.

Scroll down to Rico and friend: http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/archives/comic/link-is-nux

But they don't seem very common. Very deluded, stupid and IA I'd avoid the fuck out of anyone who honestly thinks Immortan was in the right.

Can't comment on MLP part of your secret.

HE WAS THE WORLDS LAST BEST HOPE! HE RATIONED THE MOST VALUABLE REASOURCE, GAVE THE DISEASED A REASON AND PURPOSE, AND TRIED TO RESTART A HEALTHY VIABLE GENETIC LINE! AND THOSE SHORT SIGHTED FUCKS RUINED EVERYTHING!

Huh, I've not seen any stans for him, I don't doubt they exist somewhere but I haven't run into them yet. (I've seen people liking him as a villain or finding him to be an interesting character but that isn't the same thing).

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-07-04 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I initially made the comparison because they seemed to give off the same feeling. I've thought about it some more: they use similar words, speak in similar clipped sentences without a lot of punctuation, and have a similar air of "I'm a man and I almost graduated college, so I clearly know more than women like you." A typical example:

Joe created a functioning society in the wasteland by building infrastructure and carefully rationing the limited resources he had. Furiosa and Max killed everyone responsible for that society and immediately put an end to the rationing that kept it surviving. It wasn’t shown on screen, but everyone in the three towns Joe built will be dead within a year, and all in the name of fairness and equality, despite the fact that neither exist in a society where the basics of human life are scarce and there aren’t enough to go around.

Even if the poor in Joe’s society were barely getting by, they were free to leave at any time and stuck around because they were still far better off there than they would have been in the wasteland.

But that could technically be true? That is the whole point of discussing and going over stuff like that. It's FUN to think about all the what-ifs.

They seem to not know he didn't build the structure but took it and hence he doesn't deserve credit for that.

I see we're running around in some of the same circles OP!

I wrote a really long reply to Rico/Bapho and then my stupid iphone did that restart thing and I couldn't be fucked to waste another 10 minutes telling him how very very wrong he was about the movie.

Particularly amazed at how the dude honestly doesn't seem to understand what slavery is.

My jaw literally drops at the notion that a murderer and rapist is somehow anything but the shittiest of all alternatives to creating a functioning society in a wasteland.

The Vuvalini show that it is definitely possible.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-04 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
When we first saw the women in the milking machines, I thought "Oh man, a percentage of people are really turned on by this scene." And then when we learned about Joe's wives and the chastity belts and everything, I thought "And now a somewhat larger percentage of people are even more turned on."

So... yeah. I'd expect he's got some fans.
