People who tattoo their dogs. I don't mean like those little tracking tattoos that people sometimes get vets to put on the inside of their dog's ear or whatever, I mean people who actually get their dog tattooed with stupid designs for purely aesthetic reasons. My cousin is a veterinarian that works with an animal shelter and sees it surprisingly frequently in the dogs that get left there (not SUPER often or anything, but often enough that it really surprised me because I previously didn't think it was a trend of any kind. Who the fuck tattoos their dog?)

Do the tattoos even show through fur ??

Sometimes the tattoos were visible on their bellies where the fur was sparse and some were only discovered when part of the dogs were shaved for one reason or another so idk why the hell the people bothered tattooing their dog in the first place

The former owner was a practicing tattoo artist who couldn't convince their friends get a new tattoo? Beats me. It's still animal abuse.

Ugh, I've heard about this before and it pisses me off so much. Those people shouldn't be allowed to have pets

Is that even legal???

Sort of (in America at least. Not sure about other countries). Most people believe that tattooing/piercing your pets should be illegal because it should fall under existing animal cruelty laws, but it's not always enforced that way which is why many people are pushing for more specific laws to be adopted by states that expressly forbid body modification for animals (ones that have no medical basis at least). New York is one of the few states that currently has a law that forbids the practice: http://nypost.com/2014/12/15/new-york-bans-pet-tattoos-and-piercings/

AYRT

Huh. Interesting. I had only ever heard of that one artist who tattooed pigs for art, but I never thought of people actually tattooing their pets. I shouldn't be surprised of course.

some people tattoo FISH even, despite the fact that many of them die in the process

I truly don't understand it
