I went to the fast food place and I was waiting in line for my food. Teller called out my order, it was slightly wrong so I thought it was a different order. She called it twice. Someone TOOK IT, along with THEIR BAG OF FOOD????? AND JUST LEFT??? THEY TOOK MY FOOD!!!!! IT WAS MINE I WANTED TO EAT THAT FOOD

People have done that to me before and I've chased them down (just like, to the parking lot, not following them home any shit like that). If you think you can take my food that I paid you thought WRONG.

Sorry to hear that happened to you though, OP. :(

Did they just make you a new one? They can do that if you paid and someone else ran off with it.

People who don't use the oxford comma. I thought it was something people that people were SUPPOSED to use now. But if so, most sewing and knitting distributors have not gotten the memo.

Re: Things That Grind Your Gears

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, it's still optional.

And reasonably so IMO - although it's more precise to use it, the times when it matters are fairly rare, and can usually be worked out from context. And it's probably better to just relax and accept the fact that it's a widespread alternate usage.

Oh man, I love the oxford comma.

Re: Things That Grind Your Gears

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was a US vs UK thing, but I'm an American now living in the UK and have heard in both countries that one isn't supposed to use it. I prefer using it, but I'm really self-conscious about it. Like I feel naughty when I do use it, feels so wrong but yet oh so right.

Man I love the oxford comma. But as a copy editor for a US newspaper, I've had to kick the habit. Seriously, AP style says to use it only if it's required for clarity. I say, if you use it all the time, your sentences are always clear!

I cannot convince anyone I edit for to use it. They just don't see the point.

People who tattoo their dogs. I don't mean like those little tracking tattoos that people sometimes get vets to put on the inside of their dog's ear or whatever, I mean people who actually get their dog tattooed with stupid designs for purely aesthetic reasons. My cousin is a veterinarian that works with an animal shelter and sees it surprisingly frequently in the dogs that get left there (not SUPER often or anything, but often enough that it really surprised me because I previously didn't think it was a trend of any kind. Who the fuck tattoos their dog?)

People who are inconsiderate on subways. Who don't get up for the elderly or people with canes. Who don't get up with someone who is limping or in pain or clearly having difficulties standing.

When people hog the sink in the bathroom of a public restroom. Like, I don't mind if someone wants to reapply lipstick or fiddle with their hair, but to stand in front of the only soap dispenser while I awkwardly wait in the background (she was there when I first came in too, so she had probably had at least five minutes) is pretty inconsiderate. At least move over while I wash my hands where I can leave.
