The worst yaoi

(Anonymous) 2015-07-07 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
What's the worst yaoi manga you've read? My vote goes to the old favorite, Okane Ga Nai. Horrible "plot", hugeass semes, it has everything.

But I'm still masochistic enough to read it sometimes just to see if it has gotten any better. Spoiler: it hasn't.

OGN had some cute scenes between all the terribad shit. I'd read a comedy slice of life sitcom with giant bug-eyed uke guy and refrigerator seme learning to live together and slowly falling in love, no lie

On the other hand Viewfinder had zero redeeming anything to me

na

Yeah, OGN is pretty bad but some of the side characters were actually kind of enjoyable like the dour twins and the cross dresser (I don't remember any of their names tbh). They were actually pretty fun sometimes.

The problem with OGN's "plot" was that there sorta was one, only it kept shooting itself in the foot. You could see how the seme and uke were starting to get to know each other then suddenly sex and rape and murder would randomly come in and ruin it and everyone lost whatever small personalities they had for the rest of the arc

I get it's a yaoi but you keep derailing the plot and character development by tossing in buttsex everywhere you might be doing it wrong

not even the art?

(I love her work in Crimson Spell, but I suppose princes and long-haired sorcerers and dragon-horses are inherently more interesting visually than guys in suits.)

I don't know, but I follow wtfyaoianatomy for a reason. Miranda actually has somewhat decent taste in BL, so I can't really complain...

Eh... while some of the yaoi anatomy is pretty hilarious, I still think this is pretty stupid - other manga genres have just as much terrible anatomy, but Oh No! Let's single that fujoshi/gay-themed thing out! Of course it's especially bad and terrible! Ignore all else.
It's a bit skeevy, imo.

*shrug* Well, I WOULD'VE posted 'boobs don't work that way' or the Liefeld stuff, but that seemed kinda irrelevant on a thread specifically about bad BL.

I went from liking Haru wo Daiteita to fucking having the hugest hate-boner for it. After a few tankoubons it just turned so repetitive, like it's a parody of what it was when it started.

I liked where it ended at the next awards ceremony because it ends on a hopeful note. And then I read the beginning of Haru Wo Daiteita Alive and the soap opera cliché they're going with is making me rage.

Ah, wasn't that the one where the mangaka got bad press because of tracing/painting over photos for her cover art?

I liked Ten Count but then it devolved into porn and for the first time I'm like "Nooo... no....."

On the other hand, Acid Town just takes forever for the characters to even TALK. I like me some character development but this snail pace is getting ridiculous aaaaaahhhhhh (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)

I still find it so strange that Takarai Rihito-sensei's work is getting so popular with Ten Count. I'm so used to his slice-of-life BL stuff going under the radar and of people not knowing who he is when I mention him that now him having this breakout title is taking me by surprise.

>Him

Woah, well that's news I didn't know.

I did read some of his previous manga (Hana somethingsomething, I have it bookmarked somewhere) and the prequel which I found heart-breaking. But yeah, for me it was the premise that attracted me to the story, before it devolved into full-blown porn. lol I was genuinely interested in knowing what traumatized the MC as a kid.

I *loved* the Hana Nomizo Shiru/Hana no Miyako de series. The BLCDs drove me to tears.

Yeah, I mean, I know Rihito is traditionally a boy's name, but 1) it could be a pen-name or 2) it could be a girl with a masculine name, but in the Free Talk section for Hana no Miyako de the seiyuus were talking, and then they asked what the author thought about the subject, in a 'what do you think, sensei?' and when I heard a guy's voice I was surprised as well

OH GOD I was the same with Ten Count. I was into it at first because it was actually taking the time to set up the characters and their relationship and shit. But then it literally started the porn in the worst and creepiest way ever and everything went downhill from there.

Like, it's not the worse yaoi I've ever read but it's up there with due to how suddenly it went to shit. :/

This, exactly! I usually wouldn't mind the porn but this one came out of nowhere and ended up making the whole plot go stagnant. I would have been okay if they would have worked on the MCs problems, then he discovers his reasons for his fear and THEN getting tons of UST. I think it has a lot of potential as a plot, but it got screwed over (hah) by the porn.

idk what the worst would be, I haven't read any bl in years so I think I've repressed a lot of the really crazy shit.

There are two that stick out in my mind as being especially sketchy. Tyrant Who Falls in Love (or something like that) is totally rape=love, but I still really enjoyed the non-sex scene dynamic between the two and I'd love to reread it one day just to take in how horrible it is. The other one was... Tokyo something, iirc? Lots of shotacon, weird demon boys, totally skeevy, but hot sex scenes.
