I don't like Thomas Hardy. It was a chore.

I loved Chaucer when all of my classmates hated the stories.

Hardy as a novelist or as a poet? Or both? I didn't make it far into the one of his novels I tried (Tess d'Urbervilles), but managed the poetry better. It was still a little ... some of it is very good (I loved 'The Convergence of the Twain'), but others, particularly the lost love poems, fell flat to me as well. I'm still not sure what I think of him.

I love Jude the Obscure and Tess of the d'Urbervilles precisely because they're such bitches to get through, but it's worth it when you finally finish them.

I'm totally a masochist tho.

DA

I don't mind his writing but I mind his long suffering, tragic pure good characters

Especially Tess D'Urbervilles, it's like the worst of the worst whump fanfic where tragedy after tragedy happens to the poor pure woobie ingenue
