Yes, and "gay" means "happy," and "lesbian" means "from lesbos." Similarly, I have no relationship to Amerigo Vespucci.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

To clarify my point, my general understanding is that some people who are bisexual use that term because they are only attracted to people in the gender binary (some, not necessarily all, and that's fine too). It makes sense for people who are attracted to people outside the gender binary to adopt a different term if they so wish.

To be clear I have no horse in this race myself, I just think it's fair to defend peoples' right to choose a label that suits them.

That etymology doesn't determine meaning. (And if we're going use etymology, I'll point out that the earliest use of "bisexual" as applied to human sexuality was based on the theory that our sexuality was derived from being psychologically bi-gendered.)

But this idea that bisexuality implies gender conformity strikes me as a pure theory in a world where "fairy" and "f**" are synonyms. Yes, there are people with a cis preference in every community, they don't get the final word in who is included.

My basic understanding from this conversation is that people who identify as pansexual chose that label because they felt the term "bisexual" was limiting. That's who I'm talking about, anyway. I'm not talking about bisexual people who are trying to exclude others from their label, which I agree is pretty rude, to the extent that I'm aware of it.

tl;dr I'm seeing a really specific part of this conversation, I think, not the whole thing
