I'm tired of dizzy spells, headaches, and nightmares. :(

Medication issue? If you're not taking meds, could be an ear infection.

Re: Rant thread

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Nope to either. My ears are fine and the most medication I take is pain killers for back and knee pain. At most I think it might be a nutrition thing. I want to talk to my doc about it in depth but goddamn appointments take forever and people seem hellbent on asking me to do stuff for them that I'm having trouble even squeezing in a measly call.

THERE AREN'T ENOUGH HOURS IN THE DAY I TELL YOU. *shakes fist*

On another note, can medication cause an influx of nightmares? You're the second person to say this to me and I've never heard of that as a side effect until now.

Butting in here, sorry.

Yes. Pain killers can cause really disturbing dreams. If it's stronger than your average paracetamol then that could be the reason. Even fairly weak pain killers in certain pharmaceutical families still give me nasty dreams.

Welp that's another thing I'll bring up with my doc on my list of things that hurt and are causing me stress. I don't really take anything strong, but my family has a host of medical problems so it's not out of the realm of possibility. Only thing making me doubt is that I've had nightmares since I was a kid. They've just increased in frequency these past couple of years.

I have a sensitivity to painkillers, and it's pretty subtle sometimes. I always know when I've had too much of something when I get a headache. One dose (recommended for 8-12 year olds) is enough to take the edge off, but if I repeat that dose with less than 8 hours between, insta-headache.

If you get a headache, you think "more painkillers will fix that" but if the headaches are ongoing while you're taking them, it could be that they're causing them. I have had to tell people at the pharmacy I used to work at that we can't give them anything stronger and we actually recommend they try not taking them (if they're OTC). They look at us like we're nuts but they come back next month and they're so relieved.

If the headaches, nightmares and dizziness are occurring when you're taking less, they could be withdrawal, too. I've had fun with both sides of it. Don't spend long periods of time taking painkillers if you can help it. Talk to your GP about other things you can try.

Will do! Thank you so much for the info, I really appreciate it. I honestly didn't think I'd get any advice so this is really sweet and helpful of everyone. :)

I'm going to pay closer attention to when I'm getting the headaches and let my doc know when I see 'em.

No worries.

Good plan keeping track of things. Hope you get it sorted out, because it sounds annoying.

Obviously you're not taking any of the principal offenders, but it's a fact that lots of prescription medicines can cause nightmares--beta blockers, antidepressants, some antibiotics, Levodopa, clonidine (a blood pressure med which is apparently also given for ADHD), Chantix....And a couple of antimalarials, like Malarone and Lariam, are notorious for it.

Wow, that sounds incredibly unpleasant. I hope you get a doctor's appointment soonish so you can see what's going on. Don't leave it too long...it could be something serious! (Or not, but you never know until you check.)

I wonder if a deficiency could cause this...

Feel better, anon!

Re: Rant thread

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping it's a deficiency too! My doc didn't find anything wrong with me last time though so who knows. Maybe it's my diet. At the very least, I want the dizzy spells to go away. Honestly, it's not so much getting the appointment that's been frustrating me, but the wait in between making a call and actually attending it. Last time I had to wait two months. :(
