Yes and no. In that it's a narrative device that the only way we can know something is sad is to see the dude being sad, not really.

In that there's lots of people that will complain how hard it is on them that their GF's dad has cancer and she's too sad to put out, then yeah. But it seems to be a much more gender neutral thing.
