The amount of male protagonists is a diff argument. This is about whether focusing on the pain of a main character is weird.

Thank you. How do ppl not understand the difference in arguments here? I always feel badly about speaking up and saying something to them, but maybe nobody has ever pointed out the difference.

I think those two things are kind of connected. There isn't really anything intrinsically wrong with showing a man suffering about someone else's suffering. But there is something wrong with a plot where say, a woman getting raped is central to the plot and it's all about her husband and him suffering and him getting revenge. What isn't SHE the main character there? And this particular device gets used a lot in my opinion.
