if the movie/book/game is about male protagonist

This opinion always get's me labelled a radical, but the problem is right here. The excessive focus on male protagonists is why no-one cares about men in media. It is, to borrow a buzzword, toxic.

For example, Dishonored 2 has still not made the leap to a more relevant female lead story, in-spite of all of the "We so feminist" marketing they're doing.

if

The amount of male protagonists is a diff argument. This is about whether focusing on the pain of a main character is weird.

Thank you. How do ppl not understand the difference in arguments here? I always feel badly about speaking up and saying something to them, but maybe nobody has ever pointed out the difference.

I think those two things are kind of connected. There isn't really anything intrinsically wrong with showing a man suffering about someone else's suffering. But there is something wrong with a plot where say, a woman getting raped is central to the plot and it's all about her husband and him suffering and him getting revenge. What isn't SHE the main character there? And this particular device gets used a lot in my opinion.

If no one cared then there'd be less male protagonists. You're confusing the opinions of tumblr hambeasts with the majority.

Oh, how original. Feminists are fat. Shut up.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Feminists pull the same thing with neckbeards in fedoras. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

I'm honestly not sure what you're trying to say about Dishonored 2.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
lmao, i know, right.

oh no, you get to play as emily, fighting to get her own empire back! she's featured front and center in all the promotional materials (looking at you, bioware), even when there's a liked, established male character, who, actually, is nowhere to be seen! how horrible!

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's a fairly common compliant - NAYRT btw - that they only have a male protag option because they don't have the guts to make the game focus entirely on Emily.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
I think that is such a dumb complaint. It's really reaching for something to be upset about.

She's the default character, she's in all of the promotional materials, she's the action figure. Having an optional male protag -- who's not just some random dude, but the well-liked character from the first game -- doesn't erase any of that.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
How has Dishonored 2 not made the leap to a "more relevant female lead story?" HER STORY IS THE MAIN, DEFAULT STORY. How is it not "relevant?" Do women's stories only count if there are no men anywhere to be seen?

At this point, you're just looking for reasons to get your panties in a bunch.
