I want my iPhone to never play audio from a video or game. Is there any way to accomplish this?

That prevents the phone from ringing, but it has no effect on videos.

what are you doing to mute the volume. because it should mute videos as well as ringing

The little switch on the side of the phone, just above the volume buttons. When it's set so you can see red, the phone vibrates (or rather, is silent; I turned off vibration.) When it's set you can see white, it rings. Is there something else I should be doing, like something under Settings?

No, don't put it on vibrate (which is what that button does) put it on mute. When you open an app or a video, press the volume button and turn the volume all the way down until it mutes. It won't effect the phone's ringing at all the way flipping that switch does, it will only turn off the sound for apps and the like.

Uh... tinker with the Sound settings under the General settings? I remember thinking that the external volume button could mute all sounds on my iPad but apparently it didn't shut up my e-mail alerts or calendar notifications.

Physically turn the volume down to Mute using the button on the side. This will turn off sound for all media. Then go to Settings > Sounds > Ringer and Alerts, and set it as high as you want. This will set ring volume while keeping media volume on mute. Then turn off the "change with button" option so the ringer volume can't be changed by accident. Phone should still ring while everything else stays muted.

I don't want it to play music, either. I just want to be able to use my phone without it unexpectedly blaring sound because I hit the wrong link.
