The Great Sonic-cide of 2007. The only place that has the whole story is Encylopedia Dramatica and I feel funny linking to it for obvious reasons (so google it if you're curious). The long and short of it is that some teenage Sonic the Hedgehog fans on DeviantArt all got into some kind of pseudo-suicide pact that was basically to get hits on their webpages.

The entire thing was nuts. I was active in some old LJ art snarking communities when it happened and boy, I almost felt bad for some of those kids -I don't know how old they were at the time, but I guarantee you they were underage enough for it to not be covered by Fandom Wank and given it involved suicide, albeit faked, probably would have gone on Unfunny Business-, but at the same time... yikes.

ETA: Oh, I also forgot, 'My Inner Life' by LinksQueen. I barely remember when that was a thing, but the stories surrounding it and the writer were pretty hilarious, between the woefully inaccurate descriptions of sexual intercourse and the author's reactions to even the slightest bit of criticism. Last I checked, I think the author is (was?) a fan of the recent My Little Pony cartoon now.

ETA #2: Anything involving David Gonterman in the Sonic the Hedgehog and Sailor Moon fandoms, up until he left fandom activities entirely after getting some rightfully deserved backdraft for some awful as shit fan fics he churned out (esp. 'Sailor Moon: American Kitsune'). He was like the Ur Chris-Chan of his day, though I think these days he's largely kept a very low profile and is only a footnote in internet fandom history.

Limeybean. I mean, it's not my favorite in that I find it amusing, I don't at all - it's horrible. And yet it's fascinating too. Sickeningly so. I do feel really bad for the friends she took advantage of, though. Apparently one of them considered her a RL friend, and had just lost her father. :(

That one Sailor Moon cosplayer who tried to charge money for appearances at Cons and apparently manipulated a whole bunch of people out of thousands of dollars. This was around 2003 or so. Usagi Kou or something?

That was a hilarious trainwreck. There's a whole writeup on encyclopedia dramatica about her still.

The real classic one, ( I wasn't around for this one) is the MsScribe saga, of course.

It's still related to fandom drama, but I must ask this: is it easier to deal with people who don't like the ship that you like, or deal with people who like the ship you like, but they act like gatekeepers who oppose anyone who disagrees with them?

I tend to forget drama after it's over so I can't really name any specific ones, although Harry Potter wank was/is always fun. Most of those have been mentioned already.

I'm currently enjoying the Fire Emblem If/Fates wank going on right now though. Although there are definitely aspects that have me rolling my eyes. People are absolutely determined to hate this game for things that they literally can entirely ignore in the game. The pain of being popular I guess. I'm just sort of amused that we've reached the point in anime/video game fandom that people are actively asking for censorship when ten years ago censorship was evil.
