It's a choice that people in anime make far more often than people in real life--and the people who do it tend to do it without any regard for their own life. It isn't portrayed as a difficult decision, and that bothers me. I want to see someone struggle with it, to show that they value their own life too, it's just that this is more important. Or, to put their own life first, as most real people do. I never see that in anime.
