WHAT. God. You're supposed to agree completely and utterly with me. You're my friend.

I forgot Escher - I like him too. Whoops. :(

But yeah. I don't even like realism. Or cubism. Or impressionism. Oh god, how dare I soil the art world with my tainted hands. And on the OP point, I agree. The secret was worded terribly, so I guess I worded my agreement terribly, too.

I don't even like realism. Or cubism. Or impressionism.

trufax, i mean, there were only ever three movements in the entire history of art

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
...

God, I don't even know how to respond to that. I must be so ignorant that I only believe that three movements ever happened in the world of art. I am so glad you understood this from my vague comment.

You're really trying too hard now.

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
oh i'm sorry, "realism" isn't a fucking movement, lol.

i guess you have just seen every painting/sculpture/sketch/print/installation ever, understood each one's cultural and historic value, and hated them nonetheless.

[identity profile] ainasiriel.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
*cough* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Realism

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Realism" is not actually a movement, though. Too vague. "Classical realism," yes. If someone said "I hate realism" to me, I would have to be like, "Uh, what kind?"

Shockingly, there are a fuckton of different kinds of "realism."

[identity profile] ainasiriel.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously, as the wiki link suggests.

But she if she doesn't care for it on a whole, who are you to be butthurt about it? The Art Police?

Quick! [livejournal.com profile] chaoticchicken, run! I'll distract him with wiki links!

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
oh you wacky kids

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Classical Realism (also referred to as "New York Classicism") refers to an artistic movement in late 20th century painting that places a high value upon skill and beauty, combining elements of 19th century neoclassicism and realism. In before wiki is a lie, etc. lol.

...what does that have to do with anything? You're not even on topic anymore. Obviously since I don't like Dali's art, I hate him as a person, why he painted his paintings, and all symbolism and culture he put into his work. Thanks for clearing that up.

Not liking something does not equal hate. I don't have to like a painting I find ugly just because it has intense symbolism within it.

edit; I'm just so full of hate right now I used the wrong word. God. 8(

i know, right, and classical realism is the only realism. i bet they discovered perspective, even.

Okay, I give. Basically I am just shocked that anyone will willingly say that they have disdain for pretty much all "formal" artwork, that they have never seen any piece that moved them or shocked them or fascinated them utterly. Magritte doesn't give you chills? Michelangelo's "The Last Judgment" doesn't give you pause? Carravaggio, Gericault, Goya, and El Greco don't haunt you? Francis Bacon doesn't instill amazement? Paintings of the French Revolution don't stir you? The Rococo doesn't titillate? Ancient Greek statuary doesn't make you wonder? Andy Warhol doesn't make you laugh?

I mean, seriously now.

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
No to everything. I know - pretty shocking, right? I must be the only person ever that has such terrible taste in art.

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
You are certainly one of the few to admit it publicly and without shame.

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of proud of that, honestly.

[identity profile] bondofflame.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
SHHH DON'T SAY THAT. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO THINK WE'RE BUTT BUDDIES AND THAT I'M ONLY COMMENTING TO STROKE YOUR E-COCK. D;

And god, how can you forget Escher you heartless, talentless animu drawing weeabo demon.

Baw, if there's a style I utterly loathe it's cubism. But hey, some people like it, and I'm not just going to piss in their cornflakes just because it isn't my thing.

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Wry you gotta hurt me like that. ;; Escher is like, my homeboy. And what's that one guy... OH. Norman Rockwell. ♥ Yes.

Auuuugh, cubism. Loathe it with a burning passion.
