4. Man, you do what you gotta do to draw the art you like. Are you honestly trying to improve? Do you one day want to go beyond tracing poses and make your own stuff? Then go at this until you learn. Being scared of evolving never made anyone better at fan-art. Pay the haters no mind: do what you gotta do to improve.
5. Sweet secret is sweet and kinda heartwarming amidst all the angst and wank. Thank you for this one. I totally do it too sometimes.
8. Truthy secret is full of truth. If you can say that you're not ashamed of something, do so openly. Pierce the heavens, fight hte powah, raw raw etc.
11. Well... nothing good without something bad, right? Sure, there's lots more opportunities to get out and discuss what you like these days, but flame-wars, wank and general misconduct on the internet can be a pretty ugly thing to deal with. I think you have a point worth thinking about... but I don't think you're entirely right.
12. Fire Emblem secret, right? Which game? For some reason I immediately find this character sympathetic. It's always the clumsy booksmart types that I latch onto.
14. To each their own, but man. Way to be a weeaboologchernabog however you spell it.
16. I would snark at this, but in my childhoods darkest moments I used to fantazise about Kefka turning his Light on my world and, while he cackled like a madman, burn it all away in one glorious moment. So I suppose I have no ground to stand on.
27. I think we've seen this one before, haven't we? And in any case; Hot as Nina is, forgive me if I disagree. Right now Jin needs some healing fist of justice in his face to stop being crazy and world-take over-y, and Nina Williams is not that kind of lady.
30. ... This is a nice idea. A somewhat neutral thing that we all could agree that we liked... but at the same itme, one must remember that the stories we all know and love through fandom are avialable to us because we are fortunate enough to be born into relatively peaceful, relatively wealthy countries. Maybe one day, when pigs fly and the worlds economy is fair and wars are rare and shameful things instead of just shameful, we will be able to share fandoms with people who are truly from all over the world.
31. And I think that you need someone to vent too. Do I know what your loss feels like? No, I don't. I just don't think that a man who is obviously as deranged as Kira is, a man who has never suffered loss or setbacks, who begins to kill simply because he FEELS he has the right, has no business judging who is fit to live and who is not. What if your friend had been an opponent to Kira? What would you think then?
32. It does take some getting used to, specially when you're used to swedish voice withou lisp... but now, I kinda think it gives him character. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Part 2 for I am a wordy bastard.

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
38. Word to your mother. This pairing will not end in happyness, puppydogs and sunshine... it's a breakdown waiting to happen. And that's probably the author's intent as well... so I guess all we have to do is prepare for the crash, and hope that the characters can pick themselves up after it.
39. Man, Gash Bell secret! Awesome... and I kinda know where you're coming from. To me it was One Piece that made the tears start running, but this was... well. It was unexpectedly powerful for a manga aimed at the younger audience, and I can understand if it affected you so. Man, why doesn't Gash Bell have more fandom?
40. Man, unexpected secret is unexpected. After all these secrets of people admitting crushes on childhood heroes, someone standing up and telling everyone they don't crush because they ARE heroes is... kind of refreshing. Once upon a time I would have agreed with you, but right now I'm the kind of person who just... go 'That's nice for you' and tune out the seedy stuff. Trust me, it spares ou so many headaches it's not even funny.
45. And from the stories I've heard on the internet, you are not alone in that endeavour. Still... I cannot for the life of me see how controllers are actually COMFORTABLE. I've always felt that rumble feels like a jackhammer pounding you on, can't see how some find it nice...
48. ... You are my damn hero for, pardon the pun, painting such a beautifully clear picture. This... this is what manips are all about. It really is.
54. Shit happens, dude or dudette.
58. Sokka and Kyon. Fail-sex? Have we invented something new? Possibly not, but stil: lolworthy secret.
65. When the alien and heroine have more subtext than any other in a movie, you know there's glorious crack to be had. Keep going I say! Celebrate their tragically doomed love!
67. What on earth is this how, why am I seeing the people touching in that image as fandom's image of Snape and a androgynous Harry Potter, and were can I catch episodes of it?

It's a kids show called 'Young Dracula' that's shown on CBBC over in the UK (not sure if anywhere else gets it?) The 'Snape' guy is Count Dracula, the boy he's touching is a vampire obsessed (but mortal) boy called Robin, who's best friends with his son, Vlad (the kid in the blue jumper). Vlad hates being a vampire, and just wants to be normal. The girl is Vlad's older sister Ingrid.

Well dangit. I live in Sweden and I don't get CBBC, not even by digital. What genre is it, comedy, adventures, mix of both?

Re: Part 2 for I am a wordy bastard.

[identity profile] azure15.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
A mixture between comedy/adventure/drama. It's really good, they showed a marathon of it the other day because it was half term.

I think I've seen it for download before now.. *ponders*

39 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-01-31 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you're telling me. It'd deserve one on behalf of Gash spazzing out only.
I was very moved by a couple OP arcs in particular too, but that was years before I posted this secret.

Re: 39 OP

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Raiku's ordinary faces may be a bit bland, but DAMN if his spazzyfaces or ragefaces aren't a sight of beauty and wonder to behold. So right, this series deserve so much more love than it's getting. I want to make knejerk reactions and compare it, perhaps unfairly, to other popular shonen and scream from the rooftops why they don't like it as much as Popular Shonen Manga X, it is funnier/better planned/more expsressive art/cooler fights, is it the gay, you're not in it because it has less gay, Oh I'm going to HURT you now etc etc.

In short, Gash bell is so awesome and emotional for a manga that is... so obviously aimed at a younger audience than most other shonens, and I would feel like it is a guilt pleasure except... I honestly don't . I honestly think it's good and deserving of fandom love.

Why yes, I am 39 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-01-31 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you can't deny ol' Kiyomaro is also very cool when he kicks into gear.

The funny thing is that I'm Italian, and although Folgore kinda portrays the stereotype of the Italian perv Japanese people have, I love him to bits XD
First reason, because he sings the pleasure of grabbing boobies, and is powered by cheering fanfares.
And I wanna have hammerspace candy stocks like Kanchome XD

I also take the chance to say that while I can see why Suzume could be hated for being the "powerless side character" and kind of a doormat, her simple-mindedness, drawing faces on fruits, hideous luck and chirping "Takamine-kun~!" makes me squee XD

So yeah, Konjiki no Gash Bell is extremely cool for all of these reasons and more :D

Re: Why yes, I am 39 OP

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Also true. Serious business Kiyomaro is super awesome, that no one can deny.

ha ha, yes! Foglore is... such a wonderful character. I think that it's because while he IS a pervert and incurable flirt, he's also so damn determined. He is a rich and famous dude but he's still ready to help this random duckkid become kid, is always encouraging and never, EVER backs down. He knows that he and Kanchome's powers aren't the msot powerful, he knows that in order to get anywhere they have to be smarter and trickier than everyone else, but he never stops going. Besides, any man who can recover from heavy injuries by hearing his own themesong (although in the latest volumes, the demons are starting to be so powerful not even that is certain anymore...) AND deliver an awesome speech while his pants have been burned up and his butt is showing deserves admiration.

And word on Suzume. She may not be competent, but she's entertaining and likable, and so weird that all that 'stereotypical girlyness' that people could get annoyed at just isn't that hard to bear. She feels genuinely sweet instead of sugary sweet. Creating a character that doesn't do much and who's primary purpose is to be emotional and 'normal', and still make me like them is a hard thing. But Gash Bell manages that. And that's why it is awesome.

Also 39 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-01-31 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I can only nod approvingly with a broad smile.

With that said, I'll tackle volume 8 now :D

I hope to see more of Umagon being a lovely assholish critter XD

Re: Also 39 OP

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Umagon? Oh. Oh me oh my, let me tell you. By the end of Volyme 8 (I think... it's the volume where they go to confront Milordo Z at his incan pyramid base), you will have a WHOLE NEW appreciation and viewpoint of Umagon. I almost SCREAMED right out when I was done, because Raiko went and did Umagon totally badass and it WORKED. Hapy reading, that's all I'll say for now!

He's from "The Blazing Sword" or "Rekka no Ken". It was the first one released in the US.
