But honestly, all those techniques WILL help you, evntually. The sheet draped over the chairs will help you with anime heroine X's long flowing dress, or the still life will help you with the backgrounds, and so on and so forth. It may not be the most fun, but in the end it'll help. (I'm studying to be an art teacher, and have myself all preped for the anime/comic kids, can ya tell?)
I ran in SO many circles with my art teacher over this shit, including yelling matches in class. But sure enough, I got my AP portfolio back with a note that said "5-refreshing to see none anime style" And I...understand that they're kinda lost, and have seened things get into juried shows that *I* knew were copied (Which is what they're all so worried about. That were just copying someone they don't know), but on the flip side...THEY should learn, not edit us.
Except Cubism. Cubism should die a quick death. D:
/hypocrit
That was really tl;dr XD I am passionate about this, if ya couldn't tell.

HFLDAKH! *headdesks* Cubism...just--yeah. (I've looked at it, had the option to use it for an assignment as one of two choices, tried, didn't like it etc.)
I had one girl in a class I took in High School get up in arms over the fact taht the teacher said "Do not draw in that ah-na-may style.". I kind of went "Eh, whatever"; after a few years I have various styles and can mix them a bit I think I managed to work my style into something non-anime which is good, since a few years back that was a goal of mine.
did I make sense? it,s late where I am(I honestly can't draw proper 'BIG CiRCLE' anime eyes anymore, just "normal"-type circles now...which can be considered a good thing)Seriously, observing camera perspectives on TV has helped so much with drawing perspectives as has pencil color shading with watercolors and digital colours (drawing from a real picture--knowing to apply other colours to achieve a certain shade or highlight etc.) and drawing from a real image with realistic eyes or noses etc. Granted my teacher lost my graded work, I learned alot from the course despite the end mark.
grumble. :)oops, speech D:

But yeah, pretty much, you just apply what you can how you can. Anything you learn...almost, can help you eventually.

I don't have a problem with looking at cubism either, but as something I could apply to my work....I don't see any potential application or use. (at present. Who knows about the future)
Anything you learn...almost, can help you eventually.
Save cubism (though this one is in the "eventually" box)

I don't even like cubism visually. It's just...yukcy all around.

Cubism's alright, not something I hate but certainly something I'd look at and be all like: "Wha? Whereztherestofthem?"
