Exactly. Odin and Frigga were both shown to be nothing but good parents. Odin's mistakes in the second Thor movie were Odin as leader, not Odin as father. So I automatically know that those fics will be OOC and probably all about woobie!Loki and not worth my time to read.

Both Thor and Loki were under the impression that the way to make Odin happy was to commit genocide. He might not have been terrible, but I'd hardly call that good parenting. Even if it was a wacky misunderstanding you'd think in a thousand years of parenting he'd realize they wanted to exterminate an entire species to make him proud.

I got the impression that they were just doing whatever made them happy, and then trying to pass the buck to their Dad when they got into trouble, even though he told them he wanted the exact opposite of what they were doing.

Neither Odin or Frigga even bothered to tell Loki he was a Jotun.

How could that be good parenting, in any shape or form?

Not all parents tell their kids their are adopted. I don't think it is the right choice, but I also don't think it is horrible parenting. They certainly aren't the abusive parents a majority of the fandom seems to like to portray them as.

Parents not telling their kids that they're adopted is considered to be pretty damn fucked up where I live.

And what about that magical disguise they slapped on him to make him look Asgardian?

Would you want to be brought up by people who were so damn bigoted and/or racist about the people you were born to that they slapped a magical disguise on you and didn't even tell you the truth about it after you were grown up?

Loki was a Jotun in disguise who was basically being brought up by people who despised Jotun, and he didn't even know it until it was thrust upon him.

Do you think that was any good for his mental health?
