Probably, though I want to throw it out there that I'm not saying this doesn't exist in American media. I very much agree that it exists for female characters in all media and sucks, but my fandoms might just happen to have the once in a blue moon lady that goes against the trope.

I want to wait until the supposed season two of AoT comes out and concludes the story before I watch it. The animation and female characters are amazing, but I can't stand the manga's art at all.

Yeah, I just think it basically happens everywhere. I'm not saying Japan's better than America in that regard at all. Japan's not too great with issues of sexism, and the "straw" female badasses are everywhere there, too. But I could be totally off base, just going from my impression, most Japanese media tends to be more... honest? about its sexism, probably because Japan's gender roles are still so ridiculously strict. Whereas sometimes I feel like Western media gives a straw female badass to pretend they aren't sexist. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

As someone who follows the manga, I find it kind of hard to believe that s2 will actually complete it. There's enough material for a second season by now, and probably half of a third.

I can understand you on the manga art, though. It's pretty terrible, though in recent episodes it's improved to 'mediocre'.
