SnK is actually a good example of how differently fandom perceives male and female characters.

Mikasa is one of the strongest humans along with Levi. I'd even say Mikasa is physically stronger while Levi Is just faster. Levi has more experience but Mikasa is younger and has a lot more room to grow. However fandom will always trashes her, treats her as a joke, or downplay her while raising Levi up as an untouchable badass. They are basically the same character except one was born male and one was born female. Yet the difference in how fandom treats them is huge.

I wish we got to see more of Mikasa and Armin away from Eren. They're so boring when they exist only to be his dedicated besties. The times in the anime that they're away from him they turn into totally amazing independent people! Early on when they thought Eren was eaten by that one Titan, Mikasa went into badass mode and pulled everyone together to get them through the attack. And later on when Armin was SURPRISE TACTICIAN was great.

Yep. Pretty much, which is why I dislike Levi so much, or rather his fandom.

Too bad he's pretty much a cash cow at this point.

I don't think it's entirely fair to blame the fans, when Isayama himself has given Levi many more moments of badass than Mikasa. If anything, Mikasa is probably one of the worst-treated female characters. She gets very little development on her own (and I wish she would get more!)

Canonically I also wouldn't say there's any proof of how strong Mikasa is compared to Levi - she's quite strong, but she comes nowhere close to Levi's titan kill count since he's a veteran and she's not.
They're also very different in terms of personality. While your point about their treatment in fandom is valid, canon is at fault for a lot of it imo. Besides, she's probably the second most popular character after Levi (especially in Japan), at least based on merchandise... So it's not like she's getting totally shafted.

(and btw, snk stands out in part because there is more than one exceedingly capable and badass female character. And there's no fanservice either)

Fandom trashes her? I thought she was the fandom darling. Clearly we run in different circles.
