I think comfort can't exist without hurt, but I do think hurt can exist without comfort. I like straight up torture fics where things end with the characters dead. All I need is some sort of resolution. I do love my comfort, but sometimes an angsty ending is good.

I feel like - and this is going to sound so emo - but I feel like there's enough fucked-up shit in the world that you don't really need to justify comfort. It comes pre-justified.

That's just my view, though.
