I've seen plenty of people draw fanart of their favourite fics, so taking it a step further with a comic doesn't seem like a bad idea (although some might not want that done to their fic, but seeing as everyone is working off of someone else's creation I'm not sure they could necessarily get you in trouble? I'm unsure of the formalities).
OP
(Anonymous) 2015-07-17 04:39 am (UTC)(link)If someone wanted to draw a comic of a fic I wrote, I'd probably be flattered and tell them to go ahead with it. The only reasons I wouldn't want them to I can think of now are if I they interpret my fic in a way I didn't intend and insist it's a direct adaptation (I don't mind alternate readings, but I'd mind if after I tell them it's not my interpretation, they don't state so anywhere), if they claim they wrote the story, or if it's a really bad old shame fic. And of course if the artist is someone it's not a good idea to associate with, but that's unlikely.
If a writer told me they don't want me to draw their fic, I might still finish whatever drafts I already have just for practice, but I'd keep them to myself. No big deal. If I wanted to post a drawing originally for the comic modified as a standalone piece, I'd ask them too, in case they think it'll remind people of the fic that they don't want my fanart to be within a 10-mile radius of.
