Re: Hurt/comfort: Can one exist without the other?

I like hurt/comfort to have a balance. You need the one to make the other the best it can be. Fics that are just hurt make me depressed at best, and at worst come across as the author trying too hard to be edgy and artistic. Fics that are just comfort are usually narratively unsatisfying to me, and at their worst they can seem so sappy as to be OOC.
