That is a very interesting thought, OP. You're right, though. She was better with 9 than with 10. And he was better with her, too.

100% agreed on Nine being the right Doctor for Rose, even though Ten was the Doctor she wanted. There was something so positive about their interaction, and I felt each one of them worked to be a bit of a better person when it was the two of them, whereas with Ten they got into slightly more negative feedback loops. Reinforcing silliness etc.

I wish so hard there had been more than one season T^T

I've heard a number of people express the sentiment that both characters became less likeable around each other after he regenerated into Ten and recieved general agreement from peope who heard this. Maybe it depends on your corner of fandom, but I don't think it's some kind on shameful and rare opinion. Personally, I like both characters, but feel Rose was better with Nine and Ten was better without Rose (except when he was pining for Rose, 'cause then he was worse).

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend to agree, OP. Though I don't say so in front of my Rose/Ten shipping friends.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I find Ten/Rose to be pretty much unbearable, but I can't agree that Ten wasn't in love with her. He wouldn't have been moping around for the entire season afterwords if he wasn't.

But I agree that Nine/Rose is a much better pairing than Ten/Rose.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure that 10 wasn't in love with the idea of being in love with Rose. He certainly was in love with himself enough, that there wasn't room for an adult relationship with all that ego floating about.

Meh. It could go either way, I suppose.

I ship both Nine and a Ten with Rose but I agree tbh.

Right there with you, OP.

Oh, hell yeah, I totally agree with you anon. Nine/Rose was so good, sigh.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The writing overall was better and 9 was less in your face than 10 was. You make a great point though, 9 didn't always show it but he did care a lot for Rose and when he changed to 10 it's kind of ironic that 10 is the result of 9's feelings toward her. At least, that's how I see it.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally agree.

This x1000

Nine and Rose brought out the best in each other. Ten and Rose brought out the worst.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The worst? Hardly, but I can get why their honeymoon-ish interaction might not be everyone's cup of tea.

I agree. I like Ten a lot but I def think Nine and Rose were just better for each other in so many ways. Ten and Rose were way too co-dependent.

I'm not the world's biggest Rose fan, but I definitely preferred her when she was with Nine than when with she was with Ten.

I can't put my finger exactly on why (except in Ten's later seasons when it all went to WOE IS ME pot), but maybe because Nine was just so irreverent with her? All, "I can show you the wooooorldsss!!" and stuff.

I didn't watch much of Ten, but I loved Rose's dynamic with Nine. :)

I think the reason I prefer Nine/Rose to Ten/Rose (besides that I was already sick of hearing about Ten from my friends when I started his stuff and so disliked him from the get-go) is that Nine and Rose's relationship felt very organic and subtle. They weren't OMG WE'RE IN LOVE LOOK HOW IN LOVE WE ARE everywhere. I felt like Ten and Rose were, and that sort of vibe is very offputting to me.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get it when people think Ten wasn't. I found him so even more than Nine.

As for which pairing is better, I love both. Both are brilliant, endearing, sexy. But the Ten/Rose dynamic was PERFECT. The Doctor and Rose made each other better; a process that started with Nine and continued with Ten. I haaaate nothing more than the argument that they were bad people together and deserved their separation.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think they necessarily deserved the separation, but the two of them together was unhealthy, co-dependent and reinforced each others' bad traits. I like them, don't get me wrong, but I can't agree with the sentiment of them being perfect when they so profoundly weren't. And I'm not sure that Ten was in love with her as much as he was in love with the idea of being in love with her, but it's all subjective observations.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to deny that Ten was in love with her. But I thought they made each other worse. Much worse. Tooth and Claw is the perfect example.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Because they were excited about a werewolf? Because they dared find humor in a terrible situation? Yes, burn them with fire, obviously. :/

I've watched the episode a few times and still not seen the "worse", even a little bit of it. Idk.

I'm sorry, but I'm shallow enough to like Ten/Rose more purely because I find Ten more handsome than Nine.
