OP
(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)I've been on f!s since the year it was first created (god I need to leave this place) and I've been in all sorts of shitstorms since then. I got on fandomwank once (back when I was a named user on LJ) for having opinions here back when FW was a thing (is that still a thing?) and frankly, I think it's gotten worse, not better, along with the SJ leanings of fandom. Everyone wants to get on their high horse for reasons both legitimate and illegitimate or somewhere in between and use SJ language as a tool to put other people down. Fuck, just a while ago I said some movie was shit and then someone has to come in and be like "how dare you I was suicidal and almost homeless and that movie saved my life" and I'm like... okay? Is that what we were talking about? Is this what it's about? We can't criticize any kind of media because it might be someone's lifeline? Is this what fandom is about now? I WISH we could go back to the days of simple ship wars.
And the whole premise of the comm is basically to sit around judging peoples' secrets. You're airing the dirty laundry every day. And I see in so many secrets... not just my own... the constant assumption of "you have this one opinion and therefore you are a terrible human being and you should die in a fire." So many people jump to the worst possible interpretation of every secret. You write a brief secret, people fill in the blanks with negative assumptions, you write a long one to clarify and they don't read it at all and judge you for things you specifically accounted for in your tl;dr.
Sorry this is sort of a rambling non-reply.
