I'll confess that I've only seen eight episodes of this show, none of which featured Valerie, but based on what I've seen of Sam I think I would rather ship Danny with anyone but her.

Out of curiosity which ones?

Double Cross My Heart really bugged me. "Sam is furious at Danny for spying on her date and seems about ready to call off their friendship" Seems fair right? Except she did the same thing earlier. And it seemed like no one even acknowledged this.

Also Phantom Planet with the whole "i'm disappointed in you because you're not unique any more you're just like everyone else." (And apparently DANNY is supposed to be the selfish one here)

The sad part is that these things could have been saved if written differently or the hypocrisy was acknowledged.

Also I wonder if I'm the only one who seems to notice this and is bugged by it. In DP it seems like all the "rich" characters are portrayed as shallow jerks, except Sam who's obviously very ashamed of her rich background and hides it. Even Valerie isn't terribly sympathetic until she loses all her wealth. (don't get me wrong her character development is great...but still..)

AYRT

For the most part I can't remember which exact episodes (it was a looooong time ago), except the one where Sam was angry about the school dissecting frogs. That was the first episode I saw, and IDK, she just came off as self-righteous to me. (Again, it was a long time ago. My impression of Sam could be totally off-base.)

Though now that you mention it, the plot of Double Cross My Heart sounds very familiar. I think I may have seen that one too.

Oh yeah. Yes she kind of did. The "stand against the dissection of frogs" plot seems a pretty standard one for establishing a character is outspoken or an environmentalist. (often ignoring the fact that the frogs aren't being killed for a lesson. They're already dead.)

Really my big pet peeve with her is the whole "the Soapbox Sadie MUST be right" thing. ignoring a character's faults and manner of doing things because she has noble intentions.

Intentions don't mean much if your approach shoots your cause in the foot.

Oh god the PP thing

Like yeah, he DID choose the worst possible moment to lose his powers but she sure as hell sounded like she'd be disappointed even if there was total peace and he was no longer needed.

And no, you're not the only one. Remember the episode where Danny's family got rich? DP also suffered from the typical "popular people are mean and shallow" cliché - oh look Valerie is no longer rich let's shun her 9_9

Yeah. Between that and the way the school was portrayed at the beginning of the series....it kinda makes me feel like Hartman was really projecting his high school gripes. Notice how Dash eventually gets some more sympathetic treatment. But Paulina, the popular girl is always portrayed either stupid, shallow, mean or all three.
