Why can't the people who don't like it just not watch it?
Criticizing a series you don't like anyway isn't going to accomplish anything.

A lot of people did stop watching. Crystal attracted fans of the original anime/manga and most of us who started were already fans, but the numbers went WAAYYYY down so a lot of people aren't watching anymore.

As far as those who still watch and criticize? There are a variety of reasons. One is that just because you criticize something it doesn't mean you necessarily hate it, I for one have a very critical eye and I enjoy critiquing art and story even in the things in love.

Some people also find it funny to hate watch and poke fun, which I can understand when you think about shows like MTS3K which was an entire series made from poking fun at bad movies. And I have to admit, sometimes the animation in Crystal is SO BAD it can be funny.

Basically people entertain themselves in lots of ways you won't always understand, if you don't want to read the criticism it's best to ignore it and even blacklist certain tags and users.

I think it's because many Sailor Moon fans feel the need to consume all aspects of the franchise, so even if they don't like it they'll keep on watching. Personally, I think it's silly but whatever
