I don't know much about this fandom or the show but every time I see a still of the animation I burst out laughing

Ehhh, I think it goes both ways, but I have noticed that the more ardent pro-fans are a little... vociferous. But, Sailor Moon fans in general are pretty passionate people, no matter what side of the coin you fall on in certain matters, so not really surprised there.

(That said, I *still* need to catch up on Season 2. Bwaaaaaah!)

Funny, I've seen the direct opposite of the old-school Anime fans beating down anyone verbally for daring to like Crystal.

From what I've seen it's been both sides. People in the Sailor Moon fandom have no chill unfortunately.

This has been my experience too. I've seen people say horrible things about SMC and SMC fans, and that's not even getting into tumblr confessions where you never know if the person who submitted the secret is a troll or legitimately thinks that obnoxious shit.

This. Old-school anime elitists are literally some of the most aggressive zero-chill type of fans out there.

I think this kind of thing has to do with the circles you're in.

Like, I have this ship, and I've had people tell me they don't ship it because they've seen non-shippers get so much harassment from shippers. Which is weird, because I've never seen that. However, I HAVE seen non-shippers harass shippers to the point where they either wind up scraping their blog of everything relating to the pairing just to get it to stop or pack up and leave fandom altogether. When I tell this to the people who've seen the harassment go in the other direction, they're like, "...what? No! I've never seen that!"

Now, I fully believe some of my fellow shippers have mercilessly harassed non-shippers. I don't think anyone's making it up. I just happened not to come across any of it, just like people have happened not to come across the harassment I've seen.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, just because you've seen something doesn't mean it's all there is, and just because you haven't seen something doesn't mean it's not happening.

Whatever. Both Crystal and the old show are shit. Watch a good mahou shoujo instead, like Madoka or Princess Tutu.

I'd rather watch all 200 episodes of Sailor Moon again than the 12 episodes of Madoka. Madoka is a try-hard, moe, magical girls must be punished anime. /yuck.

I'll give you a 5/10. Princess Tutu is indeed the best mahou shoujo anime, but Madoka isn't good. It's not as terrible as Sailor Moon, but it's far from good. The music and art are the only things that are great.

I've seen both. And Magic Knight Rayearth. And PreCure. And Minky Momo. And Saint Tail. And Cardcaptor Sakura. And Cutey Honey. And Akazukin Chacha. And many many others.

Please try a little harder at the elitism.

I love Madoka and Tutu but I actually don't think they're great recommendations unless you're really looking to be depressed.

Sailor Moon is a great magical series if you are looking for something that is truly a magical girls series, it's light and fun with the occasional darkness but with an overall message of hope.

Madoka is more of a breakdown of the magical girl genre and wouldn't exist without shows like Sailor Moon. Tutu is more of a fairy tale then anything and I hesitate to even put it in the magical girl category.

Princess Tutu is maybe the only one out of the lot that doesn't have torture porn.

Today was, as far as we're currently aware, the day the last episode of Crystal ended.

Now everyone can shut up about arguing about it.

It's been the exact opposite for me. It's why I don't even peruse the tags anymore.

Goodness knows I love the original, but if I see one more fucking post from the assholes who worship the original....

I think that experience with rabid pro-Crystal or anti-Crystal fans varied depending if you really enjoyed the show or were disappointed by it. I've seen pro-Crystal fans attack people for watching the show and expressing well-reasoned criticism or disappointment. And then I've seen anti-Crystal fans attack people who liked Crystal. So much drama, the wank wasn't even fun.

I'm glad that I don't pay attention to the fandom. I can just enjoy (or not enjoy) the show without having to deal with other people's opinions about it.

The main thing that bothers me about Crystal fans is how they try to throw the old anime under the bus when defending any of Crystal's faults (this even happens when the old anime isn't brought up by people doing the criticizing.)

I don't care how people feel about Crystal either way but I will defend the original anime in any way I can. I'd never claim the original anime was perfect but some of the criticisms are kind of ignorant of the truth of animation and television production in the 90s.
