Re: Series that had potential, but...
Plus, the 'teens' are starting to age out hardcore and it needs to end or they need to graduate 'cause wow, i can't suspend my disbelief much longer.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)And I love him but I agree with you, they need to stop writing him with teenage angst and focus on the supernatural stuff instead.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
Yeah, they really do. Every time we have to stop for a long Scott-makes-out-with-Kira and/or angst-with-Kira is just frustrating and boring. It was boring in season one when he literally ignored Stiles and Derek and all the crazy shite that was going on so he could go snuggle with Allison. The creator guy, Jeff, is so schizophrenic with what story he wants to tell, he either ends up only telling bits (and then gets bored, i guess? and wanders off?) or telling so many he loses the plot, or he focuses too much one just one, and usually the most boring one, and forgets about everything else.
I watch for Stiles and his dad and Lydia, and Peter when he was still around, and Derek, ditto.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
There are shows that are good enough to kill characters off left and right and still be worth watching. Teen Wolf is not that for me. Once Allison was gone, it was like the last straw. I didn't like one of the new cast members in season four, and at that point I didn't care enough to stick it out to see if that would change.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
I still enjoy Stiles, his dad, and Lydia (and Kira, actually), but the rest just bore and irritate me, and Derek is basically gone, though they keep hinting at the very few eps he's apparently supposed to be in.
I watch the show while chatting with a friend in the UK and we mercilessly tear it/Scott to bits and share trivia and fandom stuff about the rest and have fun, which is the only way to watch, anymore.
3b was *epic*. It's too bad they'll never get back to anything like that. Mr. O'Brian was amazing.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
Lydia has always been a mixed bag for me. I want to love her, but often her story-lines don't do much for me. I liked Lydia best when she was with Allison, and well...we see where that went.
Kira was adorable but again, the new characters...arg.
When I heard that Derek was out any thoughts of catching up died.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
Probably has the mentality of a six year old or something, and in one season she's having sex (while medicated) with Stiles in a psychiatric hospital and then she's in HS? She's staying over at Stile's house and it's all hunky-dory? It's just so revolting. I pretty much hate everything about that character and that arc, and this season, Stiles has just been totally dumbed down, and his scenes so far have been pretty much short, boring, and pointless. It's beyond sad.
I love Lydia i guess mostly because I find the actress mesmerizing and i love the *idea* of her. I just wish that, yes, her story lines/arc were better.
Same for Kira - she's awesome and adorable, but mostly she's there to cheer Scott on/turn him on. Lame.
Yeah, we're 4 eps in and no sign of him yet. At least he's escaped, i guess, but i predict this will be the last season for TW.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
With Malia is was just terrible, skeevy timing that felt like it went into dub-con territory and it wasn't addressed as such, which drove me crazy. The age thing (her being a coyote for so long) threw me for a loop too, but unsurprisingly TW ignored that bit.
Lydia's actress IS very good, so I can see where you're coming from. (She's also gorgeous.) She deserves better.
I have noticed some Stiles/Derek gifs on my dash from this season and I can't help but laugh. Derek is gone and Jeff has been so dismissive about the pairing and yet even when Derek isn't in Beacon Hills he's throwing in Stiles and Derek stuff so the fans will be happy.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
She: They got the green light for S6, btw, though i'm praying to every god who's listening that Dylan escapes
Me: ..........................what? they did?
Me: holy fuck, how?
Me: the ratings are *bad*
She: yup
She: but apparently they already got the californian tax credits, which they'd have to repay if they cancelled the show. And MTV doesn't seem to be funding the show at all, it's just surviving on sponsorship and ad revenue, which explains all the product placement.
The whole 'teaching Malia to drive at night' pointless scene was pure product placement, as it every time they wave their phones around so we can see the AT&T logo.
also, there's a rumour circulating that the actress playing Malia was supposed to get a reality show about how she used to be a pageant queen, but it fell through. She'd already got a contract with Viacom tho, so they just shoved her into TW and her people negotiated that she get to hook up with the most popular character. Which is Stiles, of course, not Scott. Which prolly pissed Posey right off.
She: It was WolfsBane 3 (British TW con) this weekend. Posey offended fans by being a douche, refusing to add fans names to autographs, and just being rude. Colton Haynes (Jackson) was there, and being a delightful troll, as usual, showing his love of Sterek.
Eaddy (Victoria Argent, Allison's mom) continued to stan for Jeff, saying how absolutely nothing that happened is Jeff's fault, and we should support him and love him because he's awesome.
She: oh oh oh! apparently, Kate luuuuuuuuuuurved Derek, then found out he was a werewolf and went all psycho mass murderer...to make daddy happy. JFC.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
I didn't realize the ratings were that bad, but I know that most the people I used to see TW stuff from have stopped talking about it or reblogging it. It does seem like the fanbase is much smaller now.
Dylan is a treasure so if Dylan goes after this season, I hope he manages to get out alive. (He's got a decent career outside of TW now, and I'm sure if he quit the show he would have lots of alternate opportunities.) Stiles might not be the best character now, but he was amazing in earlier seasons and he deserves to walk off into the sunset. (Like Allison did, but I'm not getting into that again.)
Malia's actress was a pageant queen? Huh. Have no issue with that, but if she was only put into the show for that reason that's pretty disappointing.
I thought Posey was generally nice to fans? Wonder what happened. (I know he made an insensitive remark about Sterek fans not watching for 'the right reasons' and I rolled my eyes at that, but other than that....)
Colton sounds fun, but I ain't here for Jeff. No, Allison's mom.
And Kate can fuck off. OMG, Kate is a vile character and needs to GTFO forever.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
The ratings are just terrible, apparently, which is why i'm shocked they got a new season.
Man, Allison. It just pisses me off all over again to think of her.
Yeah, no, me either, but her character is just...jayzus, so wrong, and so stupid. The whole premise is gross and beyond ridiculous. Arrgh.
Kate needs to never happen again. Colton, for some reason, is being wooed to come back, but i do believe he's smart enough not to.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
... And then they got another season and very swiftly started going off the rails, characters would get ignored for entire episodes, deaths would get swept under the rug as if they weren't important and the fandom came up with better plot ideas than the actual creators(and I don't even like the fandom for this show much because it's a toxic bag of crazy but jesus some of the shit they posited was miles better than what we actually got).
I don't even know if I'm going to bother with season 5(I'm not even sure when it airs) because it's just gotten blah to me, much as I love Derek and Lydia I don't think I can be assed even for them.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
Season five is up to episode five, and i've seen the first four - no Derek, and he has a super-limited role this year - he's not in the credits anymore and is only a guest star, so....
Lydia...oh, Lydia. Her character has not been well served *at all*. I love her, but damn, what a waste.
(And no, i'm not really enjoying season 5 so far. I watch for Stiles, the Sheriff and Lydia and i'm really being let down so far....)
Re: Series that had potential, but...
Oh jeeze, Derek's a guest now? Welp, that's even more of a dent in my interest after losing Allison(and having Danny disappear for no goddamn reason).
God I love Lydia but she's utilised so effing poorly, like she's shown as the standard popular 'it' girl to begin with and when we get to know her it turns out that's she's crazy smart and I just loved that, I mean it was kind of clever! But she so rarely gets to actually use those smarts in any meaningful way and what the hell is up with the whole banshee thing? Are we ever going to get that explained? (lol, no).
Re: Series that had potential, but...
Plus, this season, a lot of uber-close ups of her mouth and eyes and all this kind of awkward seduction/flirtation/whatever with Parrish that's...meh.
Yeah, another reason to hate it all - Danny gone without a trace, Issac gone without a trace, Chris Argent, and and and!! apparently, not only can Lydia's mom sub teach chemistry (i think? was that it?) but she's also the psychologist at the school now. Like...wtf. And haven't heard a thing about the McCall's desperate financial straights (or the Sheriff's) this season, *or* heard a peep about Scott's dad, who was sleeping on the couch last time he was around....
Season four is literally a blur. I remember the whack-doodle trip to Mexico, and Derek getting the full shit and...um....Kate being STILL ALIVE, for fuck's sake, and...that's about it.
Bah.
Re: Series that had potential, but...
Oooooh man, like I won't lie the idea of Lydia/Parrish is right up my alley but I cannot imagine the writers of this show managing it in a way that isn't the skeeviest fucking thing in the world.
Ugh Danny just up and being gone with no explanation bugged me so much, especially because he always knew! And I was like cool this means he can come into the fold and help them, since he's good with computers, but nope! Bye Danny! Argfjjshkk.
I'm shocked that they've ignored plot points, shocked I tell you!
I loved Kate in season 1, she was a great villain but she totally got what was coming to her and I was happy with her arc, then they brought her back and the WHOLE THING WITH TEENAGE DEREK, NO SHOW, NO, BAD SHOW. (I'm never going to get that scene out of my head). But then this show has problems with KILLING villains permanently, they've all gotten away and it's like okay? Are they coming back or did they decide to just pack in their evil ways because some teenagers beat them up a bit?
(I think getting back into this sow is going to be a no, lol).
Re: Series that had potential, but...
HA, omg, worst. Continuity. Ever. And Jeff just shrugs and owns up to not knowing and not caring. WTH? Who does that?
Yeah, you don't need to watch, it's a train wreck.
