To be honest it still seems strange to me for the same reason. The two movies are similar, the characters are the same, the plotline is also samm'ish. The pacing or the mood in AOU may be different but it doesn't contradict Avengers so if someone likes the first movie I don't see why they would hate the second one to the point of 'nope, didn't happen'.

UPD no, wait, I forgot about Bruce/Natasha and Clint's secret family (possibly secret agents in disguise). I can see it now.

Maybe we're just in different areas of fandom, but I've seen nothing but anti sentiments for AOU in fandom. The big ones being:

1. Bruce/Nat was poorly written and tacked on.

2. Clint's family makes it really hard to ship him with anyone else without making it AU and is also boring.

3. Pointless character death for shock value.

4. Thor's magic hot tub subplot was butchered to the point that it no longer made any sense.

5. The fight scenes were too flashy and CGI slathered.

6. Not enough talking about Bucky.

Personally I agree with 1-4 (I liked the action scenes and mention Bucky in passing was plenty). The first Avengers had problems but it was easy to look over them because it was the first of its kind and was, for the most part, light-hearted and fun. AoU was more complicated and relatively more serious, which lends to more criticism.

The part of it that bothered me was the lack of culpability, by Tony who created the murder bot in the first place, and Wanda, for sending a raged-out Hulk loose in a major city. Both of them have civilian deaths on their hands and aren't held responsible for it in the least.

So yeah, there are plenty of reasons not to like AoU and I've seen a lot more about them than the positives, at least in the places I fandom.

So basically, it made it hard for people to ship Bucky and Clint, and there was one dumb line. Ergo, WORST. MOVIE. EVER.

Fucking fanboys, I swear to God.

Did you actually read everything? Being mad because new canon hurts your ship is one thing, but there's nothing unreasonable about being mad that certain subplots were pointless or made no sense, or that a character death was used for cheap shock value. Which, let's be honest, it was. Doesn't make it the worst movie ever, but most people don't do that anyway, they expressed dislike at the time and now pretend it didn't happen when creating their fanworks.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
LOL why would fanboys care about shipping Bucky and Clint? Your comment makes no sense.

Hmm, I just didn't see any "AOU didn't happen" tags on AO3.

I can add to the list another caviet I've heard. 7. Ultron isn't impressive enough and the moving metal lips are distractig.

All valid critism. There's also a thought that it was Wanda's fault because she scared Tony in the beginning. Btw, I was late to the cinema so I missed this, which was funny when I discussed the movie and was like: "when did it happen?" and "I took a break there, so I missed it too".

I think your take on the fandom is more true to life then mine because I focus on its specific areas that interest me - Jarvis and Vision.

'Not enough Bucky'

lol.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
You can have the same characters and a similar plot, and have it not be written or executed as well as the first movie in a series. I don't understand how that's a difficult concept.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-07-22 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
'not as good' isn't the same as 'terrible, I want to forget I saw it'.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Why can't something with the same characters and a similar plot be written so badly that people think it's terrible?

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-07-22 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
In tv series I like all the episodes written by a writer I like. It's possible of course. Av and AOU didn't seem vastly different to me but you mileage may vary.

Are you sure you like them because they're good or are you telling yourself they're good because it's a writer you like?

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-07-22 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, when I look up DW episodes cast I clearly see a pattern.

Do you like Avenvers and dislike AOU?

Not anon but I liked Avengers and disliked AoU. I don't follow things around just because of writers or directors because it's not a guarantee I'll like all the things - even if it has a similar plot or theme. Same with actors.

And I disliked AoU because it was too cluttered, too flashy, too many new people, didn't find the "bad guy" interested this time around, didn't like the resolution, a couple of snarky one liners fell flat for me and there were scenes I didn't enjoy much. And because I didn't enjoy it im ignoring it as if ur never happened because I'm not interested in it.

It is very possible and common to like some of a person's work but not all of it, even if they write in similar themes or genres.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-07-23 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, I see your point)

I liked the new movie less then Avengers. I also didn't like Ultron. The Sokovia fight scene was sleep inducingly boring and romance was a total flop. I like Bettani, who played Vision, and I like Jarvis so I had no choice but to like the movie.

Sometimes I watch things just because of the actors though I stop watching if I don't like them. (So many bad movies. Why.)

btw, did you see Stony hints? I didn't but I'm in minority on that.

I didn't notice them no. I guess if you have your shipper glasses on but I just saw it as usual interactions. But I tend to dismiss most interactions as friendly, even if it's something I ship myself, just because of medias "lol totes friends" comments.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-07-25 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Usually I see through shipping glasses so it was for me not tonsee Tony/Steve in AoU.)
