Re: If you could pick one thing to be uninvented or undiscovered what would it be?

Considering the fact that the Tories up here have successfully gerrymandered (by splitting ridings so they will give more favourable results), I would say they have stolen votes, in an attempt to hold onto power. I don't recall that ever happening, in Canada before, but apparently it's quite common in the USA. In my opinion? It should stay in the USA.

Alright, setting aside any other argument, the thing that I'm really curious about is - why do you think that a Westminster system would prevent that from happening in America?

Because the parties trying to implement it don't often have enough of a majority to get it passed. So it happens much less often, than it does in the USA.

So, in other words, a multiple-party system disperses power evenly enough to prevent things like that from happening. Thank you, that's much more reasonable.

(Although it's worth pointing out that electoral districts are fixed by the states, not by the federal government, which makes it harder to ensure that groups don't have a majority) (And also, I would argue, that alliance-making would tend to diminish the dynamic you're talking about)

Gerrymandering is by no means exclusive to the USA. For example, it has a long and storied history in the UK which SURPRISE! utilizes a Westminster system.
