I had a very similar problem. My depth perception is very off so I always think the curb/car/whatever is much closer than it actually is. But I've learned to compensate for some of it. I drive, in what I think, is close to the lines in the middle of the road and that keeps me right where I should be. Curbs are a problem but there's not much parallel parking where I live so I can mostly avoid them.

That being said, I loathe driving thanks to migraines so I only really do it when I absolutely have to/in an emergency.
