lol Go suck some more eggs. Ever single person I've talk to who read the books liked the changes.

P.S. GRRM confirmed that most of the changes in the show do not apply to the books, so there are no spoilers.

Seriously. I loved the books, and I've found the changes this season fascinating. Some of my favorite stuff on the show so far.

But then, I might have less of a miserable, fucked-up attitude about fiction than OP does.

Fucking lies. There was massive butthurt about Stannis burning his daughter and getting killed off Brienne. I hadn't even watched the last couple episode of the season and screams of character assassination were all I ever heard about the finale. Book readers raging on every social media site.

Also, as a show-only watcher all I ever fucking hear is how shit they think the show is because it's so different than m-muh books. So forgive me but I have to call a big fat BULLSHIT on book readers being oh-so tolerant of the show and people who haven't read the books.

P.S. GRRM confirmed that most of the changes in the show do not apply to the books, so there are no spoilers.
Really? So they can kill off significant characters like Stannis for teh lulz? No big deal? At the very least it confirms they know which character are/are not important to the future of the books. In a way that is a spoiler.

Where?

Where was this "massive butthurt"? Provide examples and not just "oh it's all over social media" because that means nothing to me.

Nope. Read the books, gave up on the show when I heard what happened to Sansa. Literally everyone I've talked to who read the books ragequit sometime this last season, too.

Yup, this is all bullshit, so I'm not following the show anymore. I'd rather wait for more books.

And what with all the "didn't read lol" in western culture? Is it so hard to read books?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-23 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I read the books. but I'm kinda regretting it, and totally get why people would prefer to just watch the show. the books are just too fucking bloated, which is why I generally don't like reading fantasy. but they have great world building, so they make for great adaption material.

And your last sentence precisely exemplifies why people don't like ASoIaF bookfans: they think they're oh so superior because they *read*. okay, they read fantasy books, but they READ! That's so intellectual! I bet YOU PEOPLE who watch the show NEVER read! Is it so hard to read books? Cause for me it isn't!
See, some people take enjoyment from different things. Me, I like reading concise and/or more complicated stuff, like the classics, and plays, and short stories, and essays, and monographs about literature. I write, too. I just don't much like wasting my time with padded-to-death books about magical other worlds. I made an exception for GoT (As I did for LoTR), because the show got me interested, but I cringed a lot.

"Is it so hard to read books?"

Wut, get over yaself. I'm really happy with one version of canon here, and I don't need to read x trillion words which my partner found partly interesting, partly irritating, when there are lots of other books to read out there. I don't have infinite time. I also don't have infinite patience for the next book.

Wow. I vastly preferred what happened to sansa to the nothing that happened with her in the books. and theon's book-reek-storyline and jeyne were boring and cringeworthy.

Hi. Right here, love the books, fucking ADORED the most recent season of the show. The changes just make it more interesting for me.
