I liked the last season as well! I never read the books so that probably helps. But yes, now WE WILL KNOW WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE THE BOOK READERS! MWAHAAHAH!

I'd be more worried about spoilers if the show even remotely resembled the books at this point!

Spoiler: Character gets raped, threatened with rape, or rape is discussed. That's the only spoiler that franchise will ever need.

lol Go suck some more eggs. Ever single person I've talk to who read the books liked the changes.

P.S. GRRM confirmed that most of the changes in the show do not apply to the books, so there are no spoilers.

I remember when book fans started freaking out about spoilers a while back when we had a scene with the white walkers that had never been in the books.

It was just funny to me when a lot of book fans are super obnoxious to show watchers (and I say this as someone who appreciates both.)

I'll be interested to see what the show spoils and what is different from the books, I know they have GRRM's breakdown of the important plot points so I just want to know WHAT will be important.

Like I think it's an interesting change where before I knew the book spoilers and now I will be trying to figure out the tv spoilers for the book.

Last season didn't have spoilers so much as it had shitty writing and character bastardization everywhere. Also, liking the season where they basically regurgitated Sansa's season one plot and made her a rape victim? Absolutely disgusting.

The guy who played Ilyn Payne got cancer and was told he was going to die (hence why he's no longer in the show). He was a massive fan of the books, even before the show, and he asked GRRM about how things would end, since he thought he was going to die before the books would be finished.

GRRM didn't tell him a damn thing.

I do not believe this same man is going to be honest about spoilers with the HBO guys. If you can look a dying man in the eye and deny him any knowledge about plans for a story he loves and may never see finished, you're not going to tell people who will immediately fucking blog about it.

No, that type of smugness was not typical for book readers. They do not speak for us all, or even the majority of us.

And as someone who read the books first, I enjoyed this last season as well. It's not because I'm now detached from the books or anything. I've been following the interviews and the comments made by GRRM and D&D, and I've concluded that there's a reason the story has been the way it is. I'm very curious to see just how much the two storylines will diverge yet still end up at the same point. I will judge how well they did their jobs only at the very end.

I'm glad you're enjoying the butthurt of the one reader who was an asshole to you, but being just as nasty about it, or holding all other readers responsible for his shitty behavior doesn't make you any better.

You know what? I agree with you OP. I was really enjoying the GoT show but book readers are fucking assholes by spoiling stuff with vague smugness or constantly having to go "THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE BOOKS" or "THE BOOKS WERE BETTER" at every damn opportunity. Nobody gives a fuck. Just let people who want to watch and discuss the show do it in peace. If you don't like the shows adaption then just fuck off and stick to your books.

I'm also glad the show is deviating from the books or changing stuff, because fuck those book readers who try to rudely spoil stuff. Their butthurt over Stannis was glorious.

Honestly, the more complaints I see from book readers, the less inclined I am to read the books, at least not until both versions are over. I'm quite enjoying the show as it is and would really rather not ruin it.

YOU GOT A NEW FAVORITE SHOW? BEEN WATCHING HBO

The show really has a colossus like that which stands over a harbour entry with it's legs apart? Makes me think of what I've seen said about the Colossus of Rhodes and how the claim it was like that could be true because it's too hard to stabilise something like that.

Personally, I can't wait until the combined GOT/ASOIAF fandoms calm the fuck down. Sure, I'm generally into epic fantasy, but I just do not want to go there, AND YET, so many people are so into it in my circle of friends and family and fandoms that I just get really fatigued by everyone recommending it to me.

Ahh well.

I'm on both sides of this debate. I'm a book reader who hates the last two seasons, but I also hate a lot of other Game of Thrones fans on tumblr and I enjoy seeing them so butthurt.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-23 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's galling to me that people actually like the season that featured the entire trainwreck that is Sansa's plot. Like sure, undoing her character development and making her last moments in S4 completely pointless and retreading her early storyline all over again is totally good writing. I've seen even show watchers recognize how fucking bad S5 was.

Woooow. that is so shitty. :(

I had someone spoil Harry Potter 6 for me. He was a kid, old enough to read and enjoy HP but not a whole lot older, and he was just being a brat. I was halfway through the book and he told me about Snape and Dumbledore both with assholish glee.

Obviously not all book readers are the same and I'm sure you know that, but I don't really blame you for feeling the way you do, emotionally.

You know that most of us book readers don't give a shit because the show is so different from the books at this point that the show can't spoil the books? Because GRRM will not write the exact same things that happened on the show.
