You know what? I agree with you OP. I was really enjoying the GoT show but book readers are fucking assholes by spoiling stuff with vague smugness or constantly having to go "THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE BOOKS" or "THE BOOKS WERE BETTER" at every damn opportunity. Nobody gives a fuck. Just let people who want to watch and discuss the show do it in peace. If you don't like the shows adaption then just fuck off and stick to your books.

I'm also glad the show is deviating from the books or changing stuff, because fuck those book readers who try to rudely spoil stuff. Their butthurt over Stannis was glorious.

I swear people who bitch about book readers are just as obnoxious as said book readers. At least the latter have the sense to actually partake in a better telling of the series and don't willfully stay ignorant because "bawwwww book readers are meeeean"

But you're not smug or superior at all, are you? Jeez.

And for the record, I tried reading the books well before the series came out and I found them god awful. Way too meandering/unnecessarily convoluted, way too much rape/disturbing sexual issues, and so many unlikeable characters. I find the book readers who constantly go on about how amazing the books are and how people who only watch the show are completely missing out (among other things) to be assholes. And this is from a librarian who adores books and wishes that people would read more.

I can't imagine how one can find 3 minutes of graphic rape on screen, in which they hired porn stars to act out, more bearable than mentions that "so-and-so was raped" in the books. Or even stand all the awkward pointless sex scenes that feature only naked women, or hell, most scenes where men are talking with conveniently naked women hanging around in the background. Even so-called consensual sex scenes are tinged with sexual violence against women or are clearly only there for men to enjoy. The gross mishandling of Loras and Sansa is also highly offensive. I doubt the validity of your entire post tbh.

AYRT didn't say that they watched the show though? They were just criticizing the books.

The show is arguably worse in regards to rape and sexual violence against women (though both are absolutely dreadful) and since anon was commenting about it here/in response to a comment saying the books are better, I assumed they leaned more towards the show. I'm not sure why you felt the need to point that out? You seem to be attacking book readers, but my comment has nothing pro-book about it other than the rape isn't as hard to stomach in there simply because reading things is different than seeing it acted out.

I'm making a very particular point here, which is that anon was criticizing the rape scenes in ASOIAF relative to other books, not relative to the show.

Anon that is being referred to

I don't watch the show. I was solely commenting on the book parts. Thanks for noticing.

AYRT (not that I expect you will see this; I didn't actually expect you to see the previous comment, as it was so late)

I don't watch the series. I disliked the books so much that I didn't think the show would be able to redeem them for me. And from what I've seen, they wouldn't have done it for me. I was solely commenting regarding your line "At least the latter have the sense to actually partake in a better telling of the series" because I don't agree that is the case. Just because something is written doesn't mean it is better. There are shittons of issues with the books, and I don't blame anyone for not wanting to read them. (Yes, there are also issues with the show. I am not disputing that.) Your post came across as insufferably smug and considering you were railing about people complaining about the book readers and then acted like a stereotypical book reader, I felt the need to comment upon it.

...Those books are massive. The writing is clunky. They can be difficult for people to read, so don't be a douchebag about someone not reading the original canon.

And speaking of, you're kind of being a dickbag yourself.

You don't get to decide that your version is objectively better. And it kinda sounds like you're the reason people get so upset at book readers.
