(Anonymous) 2015-07-23 12:42 am (UTC)(link)And as someone who read the books first, I enjoyed this last season as well. It's not because I'm now detached from the books or anything. I've been following the interviews and the comments made by GRRM and D&D, and I've concluded that there's a reason the story has been the way it is. I'm very curious to see just how much the two storylines will diverge yet still end up at the same point. I will judge how well they did their jobs only at the very end.
I'm glad you're enjoying the butthurt of the one reader who was an asshole to you, but being just as nasty about it, or holding all other readers responsible for his shitty behavior doesn't make you any better.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-23 02:03 am (UTC)(link)I know not all book readers are like that but I've had nothing but bad experiences with them. They treat me like a sinner for having the audacity to say I like Game of Thrones but haven't read the books. Even though I was planning to read the books eventually, I haven't had the time for it yet I bet I will continue to feel like an outcast until I can read them.
I know the books changed certain stuff like character portrayal and that they omitted some interesting stuff, but I can't even discuss show-only stuff without a fucking lecture on why I'm wrong.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-23 02:36 am (UTC)(link)I dunno, maybe I've been lucky. I've stayed away from the asoiaf boards and tumblr and have limited myself to the JaimexBrienne communities, but I have yet to hear anyone there say a bad thing about show-only fans. Hell, the worst thing they've said about them is when they refer to show-only fans as the Unsullied, and that's actually supposed to be more like a term of endearment. It's only when someone cops an attitude in a ridiculous way that people start getting less than friendly...and even then, things are mostly civil.
I anticipate Unsullieds' reactions to the bigger events. It's kind of exciting. But now we're getting to a point where everyone is going to be Unsullied. So all these back-and-forth jabs are kind of pointless.
