Personally, I can't wait until the combined GOT/ASOIAF fandoms calm the fuck down. Sure, I'm generally into epic fantasy, but I just do not want to go there, AND YET, so many people are so into it in my circle of friends and family and fandoms that I just get really fatigued by everyone recommending it to me.

Ahh well.

I've read three books. They're good, but not my favorites. I sort of suspect the shock factor is part of the reason they're so popular - not that that's inherently bad, but it doesn't mean very much to me, I guess.
