Right now it would be the stupid bar exam that is so heavily weighted on financial stuff and on stuff that has nothing to do with what I actually want to do. Like, why can't they have different versions of the exam based on the areas of law people actually want to practice in? Cramming all this stuff in my head that I'll never use again and that are not stuff that come naturally to me is so freaking frustrating.

My brother is taking the bar soon, and he has ranted SO MUCH about all the stupid requirements for wills. Also, he knows zilch about professional responsibilities and ethics, which seems like kind of a bad sign to me.

Professional responsibility is actually only a small part of the exam because it also is its own exam that usually has to be taken first.

Wills and property are the two worst for me.

Lawyer here - I actually think it's kind of neat that we're trained to be able to practice any area of law. That weird crap about trusts and estates and property will pop back into your head someday when you least expect it.

We're not trained to do "any area of law" though. I'm interested in immigration law which isn't on the bar at all. A lot of the more social justice focused areas of the law in general are not on there. Besides the basic first year stuff, most of It is very geared towards corporate law or financial or transactional law, particularly the state-specific stuff.

This is exactly how I felt about the MCAT and the physics/chemistry questions.

The civil engineering exam is the same way. I taught myself things just to pass the exam, it's stuff I never even learned in school and will literally never use in my job.

But I passed so that's all that matters to me.
