Re: So...
(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 12:25 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, and even if you think you have one of the "useless" majors, honestly, any degree at all is going to give you a bump on your resume. Especially for jobs, like office/company jobs, where they train you there anyway so your actual degree doesn't matter as much as the fact that you have one.

Re: So...
(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 01:19 am (UTC)(link)but that would be just as true whether you'd spent 50 bucks or 50,000
the fact that it would be a waste doesn't have anything to do with whether it's in your best interests to finish it up
sunk cost fallacy, basically. like, it's in your interest to finish it up if the value of having a degree is worth more to you than the cost it'll take (in money, time, effort, opportunity, etc) to finish up the degree. neither of those two things is affected by how much you've already spent on it.
Re: So...
(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 01:39 am (UTC)(link)That's not quite how sunk costs works. The point posters above are trying to make is if you're $50k in and it will cost $5k to finish, you might as well go for it so as not to lose the initial investment entirely. It's a different calculation if you're $5k in and it will take $50k to finish.
