...someone on Tumblr is making Duke/Nathan merman AU fanart. This is not something my conscious mind ever would have expressed interest in, but now it refuses to leave my head and I just had to say it somewhere that people might kinda understand that.

...Well, I can't say that's an AU I see much of (or would ever connect with Haven), but tbh I adore Duke/Nathan so much that I would give it a go.

I think I could kind of see it with Duke considering his fondness of the sea. there's also an episode of Haven where a family had a trouble that caused allowed/compelled the males in the family to live in the ocean because they became able to only breathe in water. they weren't mermaids but...kinda close enough I guess. I'd probably read an AU where Duke's family was the one afflicted with the trouble

I almost forgot that episode! It is probably time that I rewatch and catch up.

Duke being so connected to the sea would make your version work, but I think it would be kind of fun to do Nathan as the merman in a sort of Little Mermaid story with a twist. (Like, Nathan hates being a Merman, wishes he were human, blah blah, but maybe Duke's family have secretly been capturing and selling or killing Mermaids, and finally tell him - expecting him to follow suit. Except of course Duke loves the sea, is amazed by the fact that Mermaids are real, would never want to hurt one and is also hella smitten with Nathan, the grumpy Merman.)

In most of the dream-art, I think both of them were mermen. There may have been one or two pieces where it was just Duke who was. (And the artist was way better at drawing Duke.) But now I totally want Fisherman!Duke falling in love with a grumpy merman and showing him that he doesn't have to be human to be perfect.

(Also, I am the anon who has occasionally complained about the struggle I'm having with my massive Duke/Nathan casefic, and I wrote so much yesterday and I am so close to being done and it is killing me. Also I am reminded that there are mermaids offscreen in one scene, which makes this dream make a little more sense.)

Any way could work if someone talented enough took up the challenge!

I admit that I have a thing for inter-species relationships though (which is probably why I'm so into BioWare stuff, lol) so maybe that's where fisherman!Duke and merman!Nathan is coming from. In any case, you KNOW that Duke would love to fuck a mermaid. ~~Sorry not sorry~~

Oh, don't worry. I will be shouting it from the rooftops when this thing is done. I will rent an apartment complex just so I have more rooftops to shout it from.

According to a dream I had last night, when I go on my vacation I will

1) End up in an Asian country instead
2) Get stuck in traffic and just abandon my car there
3) Be given weird meat candy by an old lady
4) My sister and her whole family will show up in our hotel room and won't leave

I misread that as a Duke Nukem merman AU, and now I will cry myself to sleep.

Because it doesn't exist and should, right? RIGHT?!

(That's actually kind of traumatizing, but what can you do.)
