But that reply is fucking awesome! I want to just...hold the sarcasm tight to my bosom.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Me three. Is that a quorum?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure you need to have a majority of the group to make a quorum, so no. And if you're thinking of a minyan, you need ten adults for that, and you only have four, so still no. Although I'm happy to join the group, so now you have five.

Me too.

I honestly think Neil Gaiman is an overrated half-talented okay-but-not-great writer. So when I tell you that that is some fucking A+ top-quality sarcasm, that's not some fannishly distorted opinion. He's really often not all that great, but that sarcasm? Is On. Fucking. Point.

Well done, Mr. Gaiman.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Neil Gaiman is cool with me, IMO

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh...I don't think that was a Hannibal fan, I think that was a Hannibal hater.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
A Hannibal book fan, it seems to me

(at the risk of setting off some stupid book versus show debate)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
... so ironic, because the book was a steaming pile of shit.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
More like a sow's ear that Fuller made a silk purse out of.

This.

Or at least, it's not a Hannibal the TV series fan. More of a Hannibal the book series elitist.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Came here to say this.

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-07-24 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, yes. I mean, a Hannibal book fan probably, but clearly not someone who enjoys the show.

Which...whatever, they're allowed to like what they want, but this kind of response is a bit much. I'm embarrassed on their behalf.

Good thing that Gaiman has a sense of humor.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That wasn't a Hannibal fan. That was a book purist. Every fandom that is an adaption has them.

Oh come on, that's a cranky show hater, not some elected representative of ours. LOL at their defunct Tumblr name. Everything Fuller does is horrible butchery I must warn Neil Gaiman about, except this one character and ship Fuller MADE UP that I love so much! What a goofus. Book purists make me tired. If you want the books with no changes of any kind, read the books. They're all still right there.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
...so this rando anon got Neil Gaiman upset enough to give a snarky response. Is this a sign Gaiman's patience is finally beginning to fray??

He/she shouldn't have spoken to Gaimen, but tbh, I agree with the OP in that comment.

None of those people are even remotely the characters and the writing was shit.

Yes, I'm a bitter book fan. Eat it.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
This

How dare someone prefer the books and express their opinion.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
lol no, that that wasn't "preferring the books and expressing their opinion;" it was patronizingly lecturing an author who's intimately involved in the process of adapting his works about how stupid or apathetic he is for working with the adaptation team and liking the scripts they've shown him.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
There's preferring the books and expressing your opinion, and then there's condescendingly telling an author he's dumb for using the writer and actors from a show you don't like.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
The thing is, I've never met a book fan who was a fan of all the books - the first two are very, very different to the last two, and people either seem to love the two thrillers OR the Hannibal-centric dramas. They're very different books.

[personal profile] otakugal15 2015-07-25 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I love Red Dragon, silence, AND Hannibal. You know. The only three books he ever released. .<.
