It's so weird to see this happening now, because in my fifteen years of online fandom, all the fandoms I've been in have had lots of rape fic with not a single complaint that I can recall.

Is this just happening in Sherlock fandom, or have people encountered it in other fandoms as well?

I see it in my animanga fandom. People getting shit on for underage+noncon, or just underage. And this is on AO3 too so it's not even like the mods will side with the riled-up anons...

Thankfully no one is giving them the time of day, but I still feel bad for the authors who are getting harrassed.

Not all fandoms are like Sherlock.
Sherlock is like, at the very bottom of the barrel. You can't get much lower then that.

The only other ""abusive"" pairing I've been harassed for liking is Jasper/Lapis. But the harrassment of that part of the SU fandom never really goes beyond getting yelled at over the Internet.
So I still count it leagues above Sherlock.

I think it's something that's kinda slowly gaining momentum. I've seen it popping up in other places, too.

Yea, I can't even remember how long I've been in fandom...at least as long as you, and I've seen rape fic in every damn fandom I've ever dipped my toe in; most the time no one seems to care. I do realize it's a sensitive subject, but I wonder why some people are just freaking out about it now.

Plus, it's fiction, etc.

Hydra trash party has a lot of wank, too. So MCU too, I guess.

May I ask, what is Hydra trash party? (I'm glad I got out of Marvel fandom when I did, though I still miss cap-ironman on LJ.)

Basically, in the broad sense, it's fic or art that implies (or specifically spells out) that Hydra sexually abused Bucky Barnes (or of late, other people like Wanda or Pietro).

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not surprised that's a trope. I'm just kind of baffled at the name "Hydra trash party." It's so... goofy sounding for a darkfic trope.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
The idea is that there doesn't have to be any redeeming value in the fic - you don't have to be a saintly abuse survivor working through trauma, you don't have to show HYDRA as evil villains and righteously punish them, you can just write whatever crazy darkfic you want with no need for excuses.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I mean, it seems like a lot of HTP-goers treat it like a joke (throw me in the trash, welcome to my garbage can, that kind of shit) so I guess the goofy name goes with that.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it specifically focused on the sexual abuse of Bucky, Steve, whomever, with no hope, no happy ending, no comfort to go with the hurt?

The abuse is a central part of it, and there certainly are fics that end badly, but there's plenty of aftermath fic, too, which is essentially h/c.

Unfortunately, Sherlock fandom is hardly an isolated event. This is largely how fandom is becoming on tumblr. Doxxing someone who disagrees with you, shaming them and policing how everyone sees parts of fandom and all in the name of social justice.

And often they aren't even correct. For example, they'll assume x character is gay with no proof and then try and shame people for reading x character as bi. Or say y relationship is abusive and if you read y relationship, you're an abuse apologist!!

This is why I stay the hell away from Tumblr.
