I love playing as the overpowered MC too. (Hello BioWare!) It's fun.

I feel you, though. I love angst involving the MC, often just as much as angst with your party members. Rarely is there enough of it. (And sometimes the seemingly well adjusted, upbeat characters are the ones who bottle up their emotions the most.)

Yesss. I love having an otherwise overpowered character break down. The contrast if this happens to generally chill and upbeat characters is pretty great as well.

In the case of the P3 MC.. well. It's not a dramatic breakdown, but the way the game ended - on a very quiet note - was even more heartbreaking than any big breakdown. But there's a fic I read which uses the NewGame+ option in a way that has the MC go through the whole thing again knowing what's going to happen and it has a pretty wonderful breakdown scene.

Do you remember the name of the fic? It sounds great; I'd love to read it.

It's this one!
Fair warning, though:It's slash, so that might be a dealbreaker.

Thanks! That's actually one of my OTPs for the series. :)

Let me join the love playing overpowered characters and having them break down party! I wrote a breakdown scene for my DA:O character after I finished the game and it was so very satisfying.

If you haven't, play Persona 2. Tatsuya is the MC you are looking for.

I've kind of been toying with the idea of writing a P3 timeloop fic-- sort of a Groundhog Day situation, where Minako and Minato swap off trying to get the sequence of events "right" (fully remembering every time they'd done so before), and each time failing to do so. There would be a couple of pretty spectacular breakdowns in that, I think.

In other words, depending on how you take the story, I think that particular MC (and the FeMC) are pretty ripe for super-intense angst like that! I totally get the appeal.
