I feel you, though. I love angst involving the MC, often just as much as angst with your party members. Rarely is there enough of it. (And sometimes the seemingly well adjusted, upbeat characters are the ones who bottle up their emotions the most.)

In the case of the P3 MC.. well. It's not a dramatic breakdown, but the way the game ended - on a very quiet note - was even more heartbreaking than any big breakdown. But there's a fic I read which uses the NewGame+ option in a way that has the MC go through the whole thing again knowing what's going to happen and it has a pretty wonderful breakdown scene.
