What happened to GateWorld?

Oh man, I haven't been to GateWorld in forever. I used to lurk the forums.

And Wraithbait...god, did I spend a lot of time on Wraithbait. (Which appears to still be active? That's awesome considering how long the show has been off air.)

I'm not sure what OP means as far as a writer community is concerned. I think mcshep on LJ is still around too, but I'm guessing they mean something a bit more personal where everyone discusses their ideas and encourages each other?

As someone who posted at Gateworld for several years, I don't think that's the place to go if you're looking for McShep shippers or writers. McShep is (or was) seriously underrepresented at Gateworld compared to how huge it was in all the rest of fandom. If you were just going by Gateworld, you would think the two major SGA ships were John/Elizabeth and John/Teyla, and that McShep was a rare pairing.

McShep fic links were banned (as were other slash pairings) because of the religious background of Gateworld's founder. There were pairing threads for McShep as well as Shex and other m/m f/f couples but you weren't allowed to post links to fic. So this pair is SEVERELY under represented at that forum. If all you ever knew of SGA was Gateworld you'd have no idea how massive McShep was back in the day.

What's a writer community? Do the fans there, I don't know, sit in a circle and encorage each other to write?

You mean a place to discuss fic ideas, plots, get encouragement and such? I would love that. I have so many ideas and plot is always a difficult thing for me. The McShep fandom is still around, but it's MUCH smaller, so even if an LJ or something was set up, it might not get a lot of activity.

But you can talk to me any time, anon. McShep is still my OTP. (I see esteefee has offered, as well).

I don't think that's true. I mean, they might have a preference for it, but I do know that bottom!John has been written and most likley still will be. velocitygrass is still writing McShep fic, and she *loves* bottom!John.

Rodney is the darling and bottom of the community on tumblr. It's kind of undeniable.

Hm, perhaps you're right. I know that I - and my friends - prefer bottom!Rodney, and we're pretty vocal about it. But I do know bottom!John is still being written. The fandom iss a LOT smaller now, so those who are vocal probably stand out. Also, John bottoms a lot in the older fic of the fandom, of which there is much!

Seconded! On the other hand there is *so* much old McShep fic with bottom!Shep that I doubt anyone would be able to get through it in one lifetime. I've been reading since the show was still airing and I still constantly find stories I haven't read before.

The fandom is pretty quiet (but still going!) these days. If there ever was a comm, it's probably abandoned now.
