As someone who dated someone with high-functioning autism...that is not always the case. I wasn't "negatively affected" by it. His thinking was just...different a bit, but in a way actually quite liberating.

Well, great. But your experience is no more definitive than the brother whose family was torn apart by the 'same' condition. Because, surprise, individuals vary.

No of course not. Surprise surprise, people vary.

Hell, there's the definitive chance your brother is simply a dick, regardless of autism. It's not unthinkable.

That being said, both my ex and your brother have a right to exist, and be who they are. Whether other people like it or not.

People have a right to exist.

I'm not sure I agree that people have a right to "be who they are" if who they are is a raging dickbag.

I mean he has a right to be autistic, yeah. But he doesn't have a right to inflict pain on all those around him instead of trying to seek help if help is available. (tbh it sounds like he probably had issues other than autism that were causing the problems, not to armchair diagnose. but either way, the "I'm just being myself" excuse is so shitty when you're an asshole. Source: I used to be an asshole, and I got help.)
