So I finally read up on the Supernatural J2 tinhatters.

The only experience I have with tinhatting is the Dominic Monaghan/Elijah Wood tinhatters back in 2002. They believed Dom and Lij were bound by the morality clause in their contract and that New Line Cinema were forcing them to keep their secret love affair secret until the end of the movies.

Well, the end of the LOTR movies came and went and there was no public announcement. All in all, pretty crazy.

So I thought, why not read up on the J2 tinhatters? I'm bored and I know what to expect. But. I. Did. Not.

Things I did not expect:

Posts about how miserable J2 looks with their "beards" and how they must suffer through being with them.

Posts about how the only thing that will cure Jared's depression is getting a divorce.

Dissection of twitter posts to find "proof" that their family lives are staged.

Constant bashing of the wives, including their looks.

"Fact checking" that the children were conceived through artificial insemination.

"In The Know" details about how much the wives "are paid to pretend to be married to J2".


I feel like I need to wash the crazy off me.

This sounds similar to the Twilight nutjobs who think Rpats and Ktew are super sekrit married and have kids together, and the 1D fandom shipping wackos who swear on stacks of Bibles that they're all super sekrit gay boys who actually all want to marry each other. There seem to be quite a lot of crazies in fandom, period, but I believe they're just louder than most and people love a good crazy train wreck so the squeaky wheel gets the grease, you know? Also there's probably a lot of trolling going on (or at least I hope so).

I doubt any of those fandoms threatened the wives and children of the actors like the J2 tinhatters have or have threatened to 'out' Jared and Jensen like the Tinhatters.

I was in the J2 fandom until shortly Jensen moved in with Jared (so around s3 or s4, I think). You've always had those posts that declared J2 was totes real and only TPTB kept them apart, but back then it was far more tongue-in-cheek. It was a RPS ship, for heaven' sake; most of us knew it wasn't real.

But after the move things got a lot weirder than before. I don't know if it was the influx of new shippers or if the old shippers suddenly went crazy after the ~proof~ that J2 was a thing, but the fandom became a real shitshow after that.

That said, keepaofthecheez has always been a nutcase and I don't know how she became a BNF. She was the prototype of the creepily obsessed nutcase shipper.

I'm pretty sure Dominic was dating Evangeline Lilly at one point.

Dominic isn't. He's pretty awkward around women (and apparently he keeps hitting on them at bars without much success), but he's not gay.

Don't know about Elijah.

Pretty sure Elijah's straight. Even if he was 'secretly' gay. He's Roman Catholic. There's no way he'd 'come out.'

Don't know about that in particular, but wasn't everyone in the Fellowship snogging each other? I remember in the extras on the DVDs they'd talk about how Aragorn and Pippin especially would kissing everyone lol
