I'm kinda out of Big Two, but some of my favorites:

Courtney Crumrin. (Creepy little Goth girl discovers her creepy uncle is actually a warlock. Magic and monsters ensue, with a heavy helping of character stuff.)

Grease Monkey. (Sci-fi slice-of-life comic about a gorilla mechanic in space. This is like, the most early 90s sci-fi comic I have ever read, and I mean that in the best way. An all-ages comic that actually is for all ages.)

Boxers & Saints. (Magical realism comic that comes in two volumes, each one focusing on a young person on a different side of the Boxer Rebellion. Can be tough, emotionally, since it's about war, but really good.)

Incognegro. (White-passing black guy infiltrates the Klan and has to take that One Last Job before he can retire from this extremely dangerous job. Also tough emotionally, but amazingly paced and plotted, and also REALLY FUCKING FUNNY.)
