Oh, absolutely. I played it 4 years ago and I still have fond ~~tingles~~ memories.

I did all the side-quests and DLCs and got full-friendship on everyone and I only clocked in around 42 hours. Have... have I missed something or am I just really efficient?

mostly I just like to derp around.

I get lost an awful lot.

Haha, like 40 hours is long enough to complete a Dragon Age game. (...Okay, it probably is, but I don't think I've ever done less than around 70 or 80.)

The game will eventually end though, so unless there's something else going on IDK why OP wouldn't get their friend back.

(Uh...unless said friend hasn't played Inquisition yet, and plans to do that after DAII...then gets into the fandom. They might very well disappear for a couple months in that case.)

Can't be longer than Dead State. I'm 60 hours in and I'm not even halfway done!

Dude, Dragon Age: Inquisition took me around...140, maybe 150 hours to finish? And I only completed most of the quests. That was before the DLC too.

So maybe not longer, but still pretty damn long if you're a completionist.

Dragon Age: Origins took me around 150 hours too (DLC and the expansion included).

If they get into the fandom all bets are off. I lost a fandom friend to that earlier this year. She picked up Inquisition and dropped off the face of the earth. Stopped responding to messages (it's not like we only talked about our shared fandom either!), made a new tumblr and completely abandoned the old one (even though the old one wasn't just a fandom blog but was an EVERYTHING blog), and basically just doesn't talk about anything but DA now and doesn't talk TO anyone who isn't part of DA fandom.

It's making me really sad to type out man. This was seven months ago. I'm pretty sure she's just gone to the world.

I still blame WoW for nearly destroying PC gaming as a viable platform. It certainly destroyed more than a few friendships.

See, I feel that's a rather extreme case. I have no doubt it happened to you, but it could happen no matter the fandom in question. If the person has obsessive tendencies and loves the thing, it can take over their life for a while.

I've (thankfully) never known anyone that took it to that extreme, but I've seen people who stop caring about all their old fandoms once they get into a few one.

I hope you eventually get your friend back! I feel like it is a bit much to stop contacting you altogether... An email once in a while would at least be nice.

I know it happens because it's happened to me in the past. Right now I can barely even look at SPN or Transformers because they're both still too recent, but then I feel the same about DBZ and that's over 12 years ago now.

See, I wouldn't say I stop caring about old fandoms...but I get really enthusiastic about my 'current' one and the other stuff gets put on the back-burner. I don't think about them much, I don't search them out... I focus on one fandom at a time. It's easier for one thing.

I know my RP stalled for something like two or three months when I was playing DA:O, and then when I came back, Kizár had a backstory that included living in Thedas for a thousand years.

I'd say that counts as falling into the fandom, even if I personally held onto LotR as well.

Did you play DA:O more than once in that time, or was that one playthrough?

Origins is a long ass game. When I replayed DA and DAII before Inquisition it took me a good month and a half, maybe even slightly longer to get through them. And that was with me playing pretty damn heavily.

There's so much to do that it's easy to get lost in it.

That was my first-ever play-through, and yeah, it was once. I did start a second, and attempt a start on DA2 as well, but I got distracted, probably by fanfic.

I am currently in another playthrough I started after finally getting my computer upgraded, sitting just outside Redcliffe. I have also checked DA:I and it is working, I experimented in trying to make a face for Elenaria (my Warden) in it's graphics.

Dragon Age: Origins is by far the game I've replayed the most; so many options! DA2 isn't as long and doesn't have as many branching options, so while enjoyable it is a different experience. Same for Inquisition. (Which I'm glad runs on your computer!)

I'm not even going to lie about loving Inquisition's character creator though. I could spend the whole day just making Inquisitors, and it is fun recreating Warden's or Hawke's, though it is impossible to get an exact match.
