The point is to lift up a group of people that is one of the most hated in our society. It's so ingrained in people's minds to find trans women hideous, disgusting freaks, god forbid people wanna make one feel good for being publicly herself right? Who cares if it was airbrushed, that's pretty much celebrity standard. It shouldn't have been, none of them should be except by request of the models, but it's funny to me that people are criticizing it so much louder now, with her.

You don't have to think she's pretty, but that's not the point. The point is her. And trans women as a whole having more people to look up to being brave, and loving themselves no matter how they look and how fuckable people find them.

She's 67,not 35. If you're going to airbrush a photo that much there's no point. That's the complaint.

1. I'm all for lifting people up. How important is it, though, that we do it by conspicuously lauding their physical beauty?

2. People have been complaining about airbrushing loudly for quite some time. Certainly long before she was on the VF cover, and they will continue complaining about it until it's no longer an issue. It's like one of THE big issues in fashion media and has been for ages. People aren't bitching more because of her, she's one drop in the bitching bucket.

Most hated? Really? Most people couldn't care less about trans people. At least until the persistent drum beating started.

They've put themselves for scrutiny by demanding attention.

I guess trans people who get killed deserve it. I mean, they asked for it by demanding attention, am I right?

I sincerely believe that you are a bad person.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realize that trans people are literally killed for existing on an almost-daily basis, right? That's not really "couldn't care less."

When people like you whine about how you "don't care", what the rest of us hear is "this is different from the status quo and it makes me uncomfortable to see it getting talked about in public, things should remain as they always have been."

I'm not even touching your last sentence; just know that you're wrong.

This is a disgusting fucking comment. Shame on you.
