I kept hearing about DA from multiple people, and when I finally played it without knowing anything about the canon, I pretty much lost them all too. and yes, it's Anders and general worship of absolute lack of any responsibility.
I also thought Sebastian has a point and liked him best. another crime of mine, apparently.
still loved the franchise a lot. it was all worth it, hehehe.

It's the fandom that turns templars vs. mages and modding into SJW wank.

it's not really strange to turn it into a dialogue about human rights, but the loudest part of this fandom is batshit insane, imo.

The Bioware's superficial attempts to cram human rights dialogue into games where the primary mechanic involves mass murder stinks. And you can't just dislike a character, plotline, or faction without the discussion going Godwin quickly.

the thing is, I didn't really get that from the game itself. I thought they made a great case, and Anders is a character I enjoyed very much (and killing him felt just and natural and everything, only my Warden taking him into custody would be a better outcome), but then I start getting into the fandom and I'm like "what the hell are you even talking about? it's not the story I saw at all!" so... yeah. no DA fandom for me :(

Heh, yeah, the same thing goes for the whole Cole romance drama. Like, it's totally cool to set the "autistic and childlike" character on people to brutally slaughter his way through them like an attack dog but if you even think about writing (even the most innocent) romance involving him, you're a sick bastard!

Yeah, I was initially scared out of playing these games based on the insane fandom. A friend had to convince me to give them a try, haha.

ikr? if I knew anything about the fandom beforehand, I'd think twice before getting involved too. *shudders*

I'm scared of the fandom :C especially since a lot of my choices seem to have run contrary to the uh accepted choices? :S

Not even sure if I want to give DAI a go, I think it will run pretty well on the new setup but sounds like a long game and I'm kind of over the fandom showing up on my dash

There are some really good parts of the fandom though, if you can find them. I think the main thing is to not follow any tags on Tumblr and instead just follow people. I do that and, while I hear about some of the wank, I generally don't actually see it.

I want to say just play it when you have time, and ignore the fandom.

I feel I'm at an advantage with the ignoring Fandom part, since I don't have a Tumblr account and only visit to read DA Confessions.

Ugh, Anders stans. It's a very opinionated fandom but there's a lot of support for the less popular characters out there, too. Don't let the fanatics get you down. :)
